A Little About Me

This is my 18^th year teaching

I graduated from SLU with a Bachelors

Degree in Elementary Education grades 1-8

I love teaching because I get to see the

students grow socially and academically

I am married to an amazing husband, Lonnie

we have 2 boys, Luke 20 and Daren 15

We love to go camping and mountain biking

Attendance

•School begins at 7:40 and ends at 2:55

It is important that your child comes to school every day, well rested, and ready to learn.

Regular attendance is critical for your child to achieve his/ her highest potential.

Academic learning takes place all day and students who arrive late or leave early miss valuable instructional time.

Assessments

Weekly

You child may or may not take a Reading or Math assessment every week. We are following the Tangipahoa Parish Scope and Sequence.
We also take quizzes/assessments in Science & Social Studies

(9 Science & 9 Social Studies grades per 9 weeks)

State Testing

We take Benchmark tests in Reading and in Math 3 times a year to measure your child’s progress.

Students receive homework on Monday and return it on Friday.
It is important your child completes their homework each day

Reading

Wit & Wisdom® is our English curriculum. It builds knowledge of key topics in history, science, and literature through the study of excellent texts. By reading and responding to stories and nonfiction texts, we will build knowledge of the following topics:
Module 1: A Season of Change
Module 2: The American West
Module 3: Civil Rights Heroes
Module 4: Good Eating

Phonics

The Phonics Program we use is called CKLA

The Skills Strand teaches the mechanics of reading–students are taught systematic and explicit phonics instruction as their primary tool for decoding written English. By the end of grade 2, students have learned all of the sound‐spelling correspondences in the English language and are able to decode written material they encounter. In addition to phonics, students also are taught spelling, grammar, and writing during the Skills Strand.
