  • Aim of the Experiment

To determine the gradation of Fine aggregate by sieving.

  • Scope of the test

To assess the suitability of the aggregate to be used for structure concrete/concrete pavement construction.

  • THEORY

  • Apparatus required
  • A set of IS sieves (10mm,4.75mm,2.36mm ,1.18mm,600micron,300micron,150micron,75micron)
  • A weighting balance
  • A sieve shaker machine
  • Soft brush,tray ,etc.

  • PROCEDURE
  • Nearly 500gm of sand is weighted out as test sample (M).
  • Each sieve is also weighed including the recieving pan (M1).
  • The sieves are set in order with largest sieve at the top and smallest sieve at the bottom with the recieving pan below it.
  • The weighed sample is placed in to the top sieve and the lid is put over it.
  • The whole assembly is placed on the sieve shakeing machine and shaken for 10 minutes.
  • Each sieve along with the sand retained on it is weighed (M2).
