April Freebie: Plant Some Seeds Game

This game is designed for students to play independently and can be edited for any word list. A color and B&W version is provided.

To prepare the game:

  • Edit the directions to include the phonics pattern you plan to focus on.
  • Enter the words you’d like to use into the provided text boxes on the game board. Put the words that include the phonics pattern you’re studying in the spaces marked with red text, and other words you’ve already studied in the spaces with blue text (Ex. If you are currently on Level 1, Week 23, you would put “Long A CVCe Words” in the red spaces and ”Short Vowel Sound Words” in the blue spaces.)
  • Print the game and answer sheet for the students to use.

To play the game:

  • Students need the following:
  • the board
  • a die
  • a game piece or counter
  • a pencil
  • 5 cubes or counters to mark the seeds
