AIESEC in UNIVERSITI MALAYA

Studies suggested that over 40% of Malaysians will suffer from one mental health problem during their lifetime.

The World Bank had predicted that 240 million people will suffer from depression by 2020, although other sources quote even higher figures. These numbers are often false as the scale of mental health issues is much more bigger. However, due to the social stigma that comes along with this type of problem, people rarely admit to suffering from them

Our Vision

The project aims to create impact on a local level towards SDG Target 3.4 which is by 2030, reduce by one-third premature mortality from non-communicable disease through prevention and treatment and promote mental health.

We aim to increase mental well-being awareness for the community and increase the accessibility of psychological support for the community.

In 2023, the number of suicide deaths in Malaysia has increased from 641 in 2020 to 1,068 deaths.

Why is there still cases of suicide cases when everyone knows mental health is important?

In our society, while many people recognize the importance of mental health, a significant number may not fully prioritize it or may hold negative perceptions due to a lot of reason such as normalization of stress and struggle, lack of time, overwhelming responsibilities, stigma and societal expectation. Thus, it is essential to continue efforts to raise awareness and promote open discussions to bridge this gap.

Our Objectives

  1. Promote the importance of mental health and well-being to youths
  2. Prevent more mental disorders from happening
  3. Provide support and care for youths that are useful for them to use in the future.
