Before the game begins:

  1. Write team information and the date
  2. Each coach will provide a lineup of the players in serving order. The first server will be in position one, regardless if they are serving or receiving.
  3. Only write down the six starting players.
  4. The referee will call a meeting with captains and coaches to determine which team serves first. Mark an X in the box of the first serving team.

4 of 11

How to mark points:

  1. The first serve is made by player #2 of the Saints. They win the point.
  2. You should mark a “1” in the first box next to server #2 and cross off the first point in the running column in the middle.

5 of 11

  1. #2 continues to serve until they miss.
  2. Mark the next box in the sequence with a loss of rally symbol (a sideways T).
  3. The Disciples receive a loss of rally, or side out point. This is shown by drawing a box around the point, in this case point “1”. Draw a box around the number 1 in the running column as well.
  4. Team Disciples scores another point while serving before losing the next rally.

Loss of rally:

6 of 11

  1. Play continues with #4 for the Saints serving. They serve 3 times before losing possession.
  2. The Disciples are awarded a side out point. #3 for the Disciples serves for another point before losing the rally.

7 of 11

  1. The Saints get the serve and decide to substitute #14 for #12.
  2. Cross off #12 and write in #14.
  3. Mark an “S” in the next box and then designate who is subbing with a “/” in the next box.
  4. CYO allows unlimited substitutions so the running total of subs can be ignored.

Substitutions:

8 of 11

  1. #6 continues to serve four in a row until the Disciples decide to sub.
  2. #13 is going in for #3. Mark the symbol “Sx” in the next box in the serving sequence and then which players are subbing. Cross off #3 and replace them with #13.
  3. On the next point, #6 misses.

Substitutions part 2:

9 of 11

  1. Play continues with #5 for the Disciples serving and then losing possession.
  2. #8 for the Saints is serving when the Disciples call a timeout. Each team is allowed 2 timeouts per set.
  3. Mark that the other team took a timeout with the symbol “Tx”. Then mark the score in one of the upper boxes labeled “Time-Outs”.

Timeouts:

10 of 11

  1. Fast forward to the end of the game.Team Saints has won.
  2. Mark the final score in the bottom boxes under the running total columns.
  3. In sets one and two, a team must get 25 points to win. In set 3, they must get 15.
  4. In volleyball, a team must win by 2 points.

End of game:

11 of 11

Key Points:

  1. In the next set, the team that did not serve will be the first server.
  2. All subs must sub in and out for the same person per the CYO Marriage rule.
  3. The winning team is responsible for reporting the scores. The other team should confirm for themselves the scores are reported correctly.
