Cells are like Restaurants!

Cell Membrane = Restaurant doors
The Cell Membrane allows things and objects in and out of the cell.
Restaurant doors let customers and employees in and out of the building.
Restaurant Managers = Nucleus
Restaurant managers are in control of the restaurant and its employees.
The Nucleus is in control of the cell and its inhabitants
Ribosomes = Restaurant Cook
Ribosomes create proteins for the cell
Cooks create food (protein) for the customers (cell).
Cytoplasm = Restaurant floor
The cytoplasm is a substance that keeps all the other organelles in place.
The restaurant floor keeps all the tables, chairs, people, and kitchen equipment in place (organelles).
Golgi apparatus = Cashier
The Golgi sorts and transports materials in vesicles
Cashiers sort the food into bags which are then transported with the customer.
Mitochondria = Meat locker
The mitochondria stores energy from food until it is needed for the organelles.
The meat locker stores food until it is needed for certain entrees or dishes.
Endoplasmic Reticulum = Restaurant kitchen
The ER produces substances within the cell that can be taken elsewhere.
The Kitchen makes food in the restaurant that can be taken elsewhere.
Vesicles = Waiters
Vesicles transport food and materials throughout the cell.
Waiters transport food throughout the restaurant.
Nucleus membrane = manager’s office
The nucleus membrane surrounds the nucleus and lets things in and out
The manager’s office is where the manager resides, but people come in and out to discuss various things.
Lysosome = dumpsters
Is the digestive system in the cell.
It breaks down molecules and its components.
Dumpsters store and get rid of waste.
