Happy 25/26 school year. As we work to get into our new routines, we know there will be questions. This year please help us stay organized by directing as much as possible to the school office. This would include questions regarding uniforms, billing, contracts etc. Also, if you already have days you know you will be gone, or appointments that will take time from class please either text or email Mrs. Costner at the school office. 870-260-7779 or crestline.reception@gmail.com. She will be keeping our master calendar this year.

News

EFA- Good news! All of our families that should be approved and confirmed with EFA are. Now we will be waiting for their open window for billing. When this time comes you will receive an invoice from us that will need to be uploaded to your ClassWallet. Once that bill is paid you can use any remaining funds on uniforms etc. Please be mindful of your contracted amount with Crestline while using these funds.Latin

This year we have the privilege of having Mrs. Upson teaching our Latin class on Thursdays from 12:45-1:30. Mrs. Upson has worked for Crestline for many years and does an excellent job with many subjects, Latin being one. Currently Mrs Upson is living in Idaho, and will be teaching remotely. Prayerfully her family will also be joining us in Arkansas soon. However, while we work through what this remote class looks like, please note we may have a learning curve with the technology etc. necessary to make this class run. If you would like to have a virtual meeting with Mrs. Upson, please contact the office and we can arrange that. (Note: Mrs. Upsons own children will be joining us remotely for Mrs. Wood’s classes as well)

WEBSITE

We have worked hard over the summer to revamp the website. Please note that you will find the digital version of our newsletters as well as calendars etc. on our site. If you have trouble accessing any of this information we would be happy to help direct you. www.crestlineacademy.com

News

Latin- Salvete, amicii (that means hello, friends)! I am Mrs. Upson, and I’m thrilled to get to teach Latin for Crestline. We will be studying Latin vocabulary and grammar, as well as linking it back to the roots of Latin in the English language this year. This week, we will start by learning how to pronounce letters of the Latin alphabet and covering basic vocabulary in the classroom.

*Quick note from Mrs. Davis-I accidentally got Mrs. Upson’s time wrong on our last newsletter. She will be teaching Latin on Thursdays. Also only students 3-8 will have Latin with Mrs. Upson. Younger students will have Latin in the mornings with me.

Water Bottles- Please send your students to school each day with a water bottle. Hopefully the temps will come down soon, but currently it is scorching while we are outside for recess.

School Spirit Days- This week is our first school spirit day. This happens the third Thursday of each month. On school spirit days your child may wear jeans with their polo. But as always they need to be appropriate and hole free. The goal is to have fun but not be sloppy. Students may also choose to wear a shirt from our school spirit-wear collection along with their jeans. (Reminder: hoodies have to be removed in the classroom.) Any profit from these shirts will be used to support scholarships and other ministry needs within the Crestline community.

Bible etc.: As we tackle some big questions this year. If your family is looking for some additional resources regarding the topics being discussed please feel free to reach out and we are happy to provide you with what you need. Also, we frequently use Answers in Genesis as a resource. Their streaming service is very reasonable and has so much programming that is good for the whole family.

“Who is Jesus” Textbook

We have finally started to receive some of our textbooks that have been on backorder. While we are still waiting on some, we are so happy that our “Who is Jesus” text has arrived. We have been working through it in class, but would now like for you do enjoy reading it at home, as a family before class. This way we will be able to discuss it together in class. You will notice a reading assignment that needs to be completed ahead of the next class period. However, if you have time, please feel free to go back and read the prior chapters together as a family as well. We hope you will enjoy it. After we have completed this book we do ask that it is returned to the school as we will be using it in future years as well.

Latin:

When learning a language, it is important to spend time with it daily to master it. Although Latin is a “dead language,” meaning it is not commonly a spoken language, it is important to spend time reviewing daily. Although we only have Latin class once per week, it is important to carve out small increments of time for studying Latin throughout the week. I encourage students and families to spend 5-10 minutes at least five days per week reviewing vocabulary. In class, we will use basic Latin vocabulary to engage in conversations as well. Last week’s Latin phrase was “ora et labora,” meaning pray and work, and that describes well the way we should approach our Latin studies.

Education and Family Notes:

We know that parenting and life can be difficult. Whenever possible we work to gather and share resources that are Biblically and educationally sound. It is our hope that these resources are helpful as you go about the hard work of training up your child. If you have need for additional resources or information on a specific topic please don’t hesitate to reach out and we are happy to connect you with what you need. Recently we have spent some time talking about dinosaurs. So how do we answer the question, ‘where do the dinosaurs fit into the Bible?’ I hope this video helps.

Uniforms: We are going to set a deadline of Oct. 1 to have all students in uniform. If you have questions regarding what is/is not approved for uniform, please visit our uniform policy page. If you still have questions, please drop an email to the office and we can help you out.

As children grow, it might be tempting to stop reading to them. However, taking time to read outloud to your child has some amazing benefits, not the least of which is precious time spent together. The following article is intended for a classroom teacher, but I do think that it has great value in the home as well. Find good books, read them together, use the time to ask and answer important questions. These are the moments that you will remember and value for years to come. Family Literacy Week: Each year we spend a week promoting literacy at home. We do this through fun activities at school, but we also love when families bring the fun into their homes. During our themed days this week we encourage you to explore your home library for books that match our themes. Spend time as a family reading and enjoying these books together.

For our themed dress days, students are not required to participate, however if they do not, they will be expected to be in their regular uniform. If your student’s themed outfit requires a hat, they may wear their hat on these days as long as it doesn’t become a distraction. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

If you would like to make something to share we will also have a table setup potluck style for sides and desserts. (Note: there will be be opportunity to win some door prizes for those who come dressed in their Crestline Spiritwear.)

Please let us know if you plan to attend so that we can make sure to have enough food. :)

School Work Days- We have our first set of work days planned for this Friday and Saturday. We have rented some equipment to do some digging to prepare for concrete. We also need to pressure wash our outdoor sign, plus several other ongoing projects. Please let us know if you are available to join us. Every little bit helps us get closer to our goal of having classes downstairs. (Reminder: we will also be working on the 24th and 25th. We also have projects every Friday and Saturday for the month of October.)

Mystery of History- Students in grades 3-8 will now have a textbook for Mystery of History. We have enough books for 1/family in these grades. While they will still have access to the audiobook, we would like to encourage these students to also follow along in their book, or they may read their book in place of listening.

Christmas Recital- We are so excited to announce that we are preparing a Christmas recital. Originally we had this on the calendar for 12/12. However due to the availability of our music teacher. We have moved the presentation/recital to 12/11 @ 6:15pm. We will have more information coming as we get closer, but we wanted to give you the date and time ahead of time since all students are required to attend this event as a part of their grade in several subject areas. If your child is not participating in music class they will still have recitations that they are doing for other classes. Please make sure that they are practicing those recitations at home as well. ALSO- If you have a student participating in music lessons outside of school hours and if they would like to perform their Christmas recital piece at our Crestline recital, please let Mrs. Davis know soon and we will add them to the program.

Uniforms- Please make sure that your child has all of their correct uniform pieces including indoor approved sweaters and long sleeve shirts as well as their dress uniform for their recital and other upcoming presentations. If you have questions please make sure that you contact the school office.

School Hours- As the seasons change just a quick reminder that earlies drop off time is 8am. Also, please plan to pick your child up promptly at the end of the school day. Someday we may be able to add our before and after school programs to extend our hours, however we don’t have enough need at this time to hire someone to cover extended times.

Work Day rescheduled- Due to the rain we had to postpone our concrete pour. Concrete will now be poured this coming Friday at 8am. If you are available to help, please let Mrs. Davis know.

One of the major things that sets Classical education apart, is the student’s ability to memorize, recite, write and present.

As we prepare to present some of our learned material at our Christmas recital we are excited to give you a glimpse into some of the things we are reading and discussing this year, as well as some of the presentation skills we are developing. Your student has several things they are working on and it is our hope that you will encourage them in their preparedness for the presentation of their material. If you are unclear or if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Also, as we wrap up second quarter this month, we will be using some of our class time in preparation for the recital. Your student’s preparedness for class each day as well as their final presentation at the recital will be reflected as part of their final grade for several classes.

NewsCrestline’s Annual Christmas “Adoption”- Donations are now due. If you signed up to bring an item on our list, please bring it by the school promptly so that we can get our donations turned into Three Wishes for Ruby by their deadline. If you have signed up for something and can no longer bring it, please let the school office know so that we can make sure the need is filled. If you forgot what you signed up to bring please visit our signup sheet .

Inclimate Weather Policy- With the changing of seasons, it is a good time to remind everyone of our inclimate weather policy. Often we will follow the lead of the local school districts when it comes to closing school. However, in general our goal is that you can drive safely to and from school. If at any time you feel the weather makes it unsafe for you to drive to school please just let the school office know. Any school closures, delays, or early releases will be announced on our official Facebook page and sent out via email blast. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Quarter 4 EFA funds will fund tomorrow morning. You should receive your invoice in your Class Wallet either this afternoon or tomorrow morning. If you have not already renewed your status with EFA, please do so promptly by filling out the survey within Class Wallet. This helps us to know how many students will be using EFA funds for next year so that we can budget and enroll new students. This week is Third Thursday. We will be doing our normal School Spirit day on Thursday. However we will not be doing a school skating night this month. Stay tuned for a special announcement about a school field trip next week.

CLT Testing: Next Monday and Tuesday grades 3-8 will be particpating in the CLT in the afternoons. We will be starting our tests as soon as the younger students depart, or around 12:15. Please help us to do our best by sending your child to school well rested and with a few healthy snacks to eat between tests. Make up tests will be scheduled for Friday.

REMINDER: Memory work is a part of our Christian Studies/Bible grade. This quarter your child/children should be memorizing Colossians ch. 4. Please make sure you are spending time on your memory work every night. If you have misplaced your practice chart it can be found here.

The “summer slide” or the “summer melt” is a very real thing. Major institutions have studied the negative effects of summer break on learning. The reality is that even just a little bit of meaningful engagement with reading and math each day can greatly decrease the amount of academic loss your child will have this summer. This week you will be receiving a summer reading list. Please make an intentional plan to help reduce your child’s “summer slide.”
