God gave them the commandment not to eat the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. If they eat it, they will surely die.

“And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the (true) olive tree (Jesus)”

Adam’s disobedience brought spiritual death. Jesus restores Adam’s failure and brings abundant life.

The Tree of Life represents Jesus who became the perfected Adam.

Jesus therefore is symbolized by the Olive Tree and the Tree of Life and attained the Tree of Life by becoming Perfected Adam.
Jesus came as Adam to restore what the first Adam failed to do.

The Knowledge of Good and Evil represents Eve at the point of decision.
If she obeys God, she represents the Tree of knowledge of “good.” If she disobeys God, she represents the Tree of Knowledge of “evil.”

(if he obeyed as Jesus did.)
The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil – Eve (at the point of decision)
God gave them the Commandment not to eat the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. If they eat it, they will surely die.
Eve disobeyed God’s commandment and Adam followed.�

What did the fruit represent?
To understand this we will look at the Tree of Knowledge in the Scripture.
The Fruit came from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
Genesis 4:1
And Adam “knew” Eve his wife; and she conceived…
Adam “Knew” Eve, meaning to have love relations with her. The Tree of “Knowledge” (knowing) represents Eve and the fruit represents her love.

In the scripture, the men of Sodom and Gomorrah wanted to ‘know’ the angels that came to visit Lot.
The Fruit came from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
Genesis 19:1-2 “And there came two angels to Sodom at evening…and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them…
and they stayed in his house.
The men of Sodom came.”
Genesis 19:4-5 “And they (the men of Sodom), called … Lot… and said unto him, Where are the men (angels) which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them.”

They were ashamed of being naked and covered the lower parts.

God said, if you eat it,
you will surely die. �The serpent said
you will not surely die.
Which word did Eve listen to? Eve listened to the serpent’s word, not caring even about death.

After eating it, Adam and Eve didn’t die physically.
It must have been a spiritual death which was a separation from God.
Therefore, the fruit that they ate must not have been an actual fruit, but something symbolic.

“Not that which goes into the mouth defiles a man; but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”

Eating the Fruit
If they ate a literal fruit, they would have covered their mouths, but instead they covered their lower parts and were ashamed of their nakedness.
Therefore, eating the fruit must have had something to do with the lower parts of the body.

The Fruit has been represented symbolically in the Scripture.
A woman says:
“Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men.
I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste.
Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love.”

The Fruit was symbolic not literal.
A man says:
“Your stature is like that of the palm, and your breasts like clusters of fruit.”

Identity of the Serpent
Was the Serpent literal or Symbolic?
The Serpent was an Angel who became the Devil and Satan.

He was a male angel who was cast out and “his angels were cast out with him.”
“So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Man and Woman were to be equal and one.
God said to the woman:
“I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”

God had no choice and could not allow Adam and Eve to remain on the path of perfection of love by attaining the Tree of Life.

Due to Adam and Eve’s disobedience to God’s Word and through following the Lucifer, Jesus said we came under Satan as the ‘false’ father. The lineage created was not rooted in God.

“You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

What is the heart of our God, who has had to witness the wretched situation of humankind at every moment? God lost (Adam and Eve) His substantial partners of true love, whom He would not exchange even for the whole universe. This overwhelmed Him with grief. His ideal of creation collapsed; it was as if He had lost His entire creation….He became the God of lamentation… (479-242, 2004.12.13)

God’s Plan to redeem man from death – rebirth through Jesus Christ
Adam and Eve died spiritually – that is why God sends the Messiah, Tree of Life - Jesus Christ, to bring rebirth.
Through rebirth we are brought back to life from the death created by Adam and Eve.

The Coming of Jesus Is Our Hope
When we believe in Jesus as the Savior through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit we receive the love of the spiritual True Parents, which is generated through the give and take between Jesus, the spiritual True Father, and the Holy Spirit, the spiritual True Mother.
Through this love, new life is infused into us, and our spirits are reborn as new selves.

THE HOPE
The Coming of Jesus Is Our Hope
Jesus fulfilled the first blessing of the perfection as an individual by restoring Adam’s failure.
With His return, Jesus can fulfill the 2nd and 3rd blessing by anointing True Parents to bless marriages.
Now, through the blessing, grace is no longer only for the individual believer but God’s grace is extended to the couple standing in the image of God.
On that foundation God can allow us to have dominion over all creation building a world of love for all mankind. Thus Jesus could complete the three blessings through us.
