When is a SELLS committee required?
Site English Language Learner subcommittee (SELLS)
Any school that has 21 or more English Learner students is required to have a SELLS subcommittee.

Traditional Formation
Establish SELLS as a separate committee
OPTION 2
Designate SSC to act as SELLS advisory body

Designate SELLS as a Subcommittee of SSC
OPTION 1: Traditional Establishment
Has at least 3 Members
Is comprised of the same percentage
of ELL parents as reflected by the

Option 1 is for SELLS committees that wish to remain a separate advisory body.
OPTION 2: Designate SSC
Principal can designate SSC to act as SELLS advisory body
Does not require a SELLS Establishment meeting - SSC documents will provide evidence
Option 2 is for sites that do not wish to have a standalone SELLS committee. SSC must address the needs of EL students and provide advisement.
The percentage of SSC parent members reflects the same percentage of ELs in student body
Ex: If student EL population = 20%
1 of the 5 parent/community members (20%) must be EL parent(s)
ONLY IF
OPTION 3: Designate Subcommittee of SSC
Option 3 is for sites whose SSC does not meet EL parent percentage requirements or prefer a subcommittee. Subcommittee must address the needs of EL students and provide advisement.
