What is Dual Enrollment?

• Dual Enrollment (DE) is available to eligible students in the 10^th through 12^th grade.
• Dual Enrollment allows eligible students the opportunity to take college courses while in high school.
• Students can earn both college and high school credit by taking college courses.
• Students taking courses through Dual Enrollment can be enrolled either full-time or part-time at the college.
• The program is offered during all terms of the school year:
• fall, spring, and summer semesters.

Dual Enrollment Perks

• Flexible schedules with priority registration.
• Receive rigor points similar to AP courses. Academic courses taken through a college are awarded additional points toward the HOPE GPA calculation.
• Save Money! Hours paid under DE funding DO NOT count toward HOPE Scholarship cap hours.
• Participate in any high school activities/competitions as well as all college activities, career services, clubs, and peer tutoring.
• Utilize all Athens Technical College resources such as free tutoring, the library, and the computer labs.
• Easy transition from Dual Enrollment to a Traditional Freshman – just contact the Athens Technical College Office of Admissions to update your file.
• Free ATC parking permit and student ID card.

Eligibility Requirements for DE at ATC

• Be a high school Sophomore, Junior, or Senior on track for high school graduation.
• Please speak to your high school counselor about your interest in the program.
• Complete the ATC Dual Enrollment Admissions Application.
• Submit the ATC Dual Enrollment Recommendation/Participation Form.
• Meet the minimum GPA or placement test scores required by ATC:
• 10^th, 11^th, and 12^th grade students interested in the technical diploma and certificate program courses must have a 2.0 or higher overall GPA (cumulative high school GPA) or official test scores.
• 11^th and 12^th grade students interested in the degree program courses must have a 2.5 or higher overall GPA or official test scores.
• Placement test scores are required for 10^th graders wanting to receive Dual Enrollment funding for degree program courses:
• Minimum SAT score of 1200 or minimum ACT composite score of 26 in a single national test administration.

What Will My Class Schedule Look Like?

• You get to choose! Plan your college class schedule for the morning or afternoon to fit your high school schedule.
• Part time or full time
• 3 to 15 credit hours
• Morning, afternoon, or evening courses
• Monday/Wednesday
• Tuesday/Thursday
• Online

• Adjusted high school schedule accommodating the DE courses.
• Talk to your counselor for more information.

• Ask if any DE courses are being taught at your high school so you will not have to drive off campus.

Admission Deadlines

• Please submit the Dual Enrollment admissions application and supporting documents by the following preferred deadlines:
• Fall: April 1^st
• Spring: November 1^st
• Summer: April 1^st

Dual Enrollment Funding

• Dual Enrollment funding covers tuition, mandatory fees, and textbooks up to 30 credit hours.
• DE students must complete a funding application via GAfutures.
• Effective summer 2023, Georgia public high school students enrolled in CTAE courses within an approved HOPE Career Grant technical certificate or diploma, with advisement by the high school and ATC, may choose to apply and receive HOPE Career Grant funding prior to utilizing all DE funding program hours (30 credit hours).

• Some program and course level fees are the responsibility of the students.

Examples: lab fees, supply fees, uniforms, welding shields, cosmetology kits, etc.

• Dual Enrollment will not fund the same course twice.
• Once a student withdraws from two courses, they are no longer eligible for DE funding.

HOPE Career Grant

• The HOPE Career Grant applies to technical certificate and diploma programs.
• To be eligible for the HOPE Career Grant, students must first qualify for and be receiving the HOPE Grant. The two grants together will cover all tuition.
• Students will still be responsible for student fees and any equipment necessary.
• The HOPE Career Grant awards are based on the student’s program of study and the number of hours of enrollment.

Types of Programs at ATC

Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC)

• Focus on competencies for specific job positions.
• Usually one or two semesters in length.
• Qualify for HOPE Grant.

​

Diploma Programs

• General education and technical courses transfer to other technical colleges.
• Usually one year in length.
• Qualify for HOPE Grant.

Types of Programs at ATC

Associate Degree Programs

• Higher placement test scores.
• General education courses transfer to other colleges (USG).
• Technical courses transfer to other technical colleges (SACSCOC).
• HOPE Scholarship.
