About Laboratory

A surveying laboratory is a place where students learn to use surveying equipment to gather field data and draw maps. In a surveying lab, students learn to use both traditional and modern surveying techniques and technologies. They also learn how to apply the data they collect to design projects like highways and land developments. Surveying labs are equipped with a variety of instruments, including:

  • Total stations
  • Automatic levels
  • GPS units
  • Theodolites
  • Compasses
  • Plane tables
  • Electromagnetic distance measurement (EDM) devices
  • Geographical information systems (GIS)
