Learning Challenge #7

Technology Integration Plan

2 of 9

Problem of Practice

I want to focus on one of my problems of practice. The problem is that in Accounting the content builds on the previous days content, similar to a math class. As we make our way through each unit, there are students who grasp the concepts quicker than others and require much less time to complete the daily learning activities. I have been trying to find a way to keep all students engaged, but not have the students feel "punished" with more work for finishing early.

Technology Integration Plan

  1. Create a Wakelet for my Accounting Class.
  2. Share the link with the students so they have access to our space on Wakelet.

3. The students will conduct their own research on the different business topics that are posted on our classes wakelet. The topics will be relevant to the wide world of business and include topics such as investing, cryptocurrency, executive compensation, corporate finance, international business and I will also allow them to create their own topics.

4. They will post an article that they found interesting under the topic heading of their choosing and then summarize their article and leave one discussion question for the class. I have a screenshot of one of the spaces on the next slide.

5. The students will be instructed to check our classes wakelet page multiple times throughout a week and to make posts frequently. A creative way to tie in our postings is to allow for class time on Friday’s for our class to have in person discussions from the postings from their classmates and discuss the prompts that were posted.

6. In order to really integrate technology into solving this problem we will have each student keep a Blog on Weebly that will be updated throughout the semester.

TIP Model

Phase 1: Analysis of Learning and Teaching Needs

This technology based method will improve my problem of practice by using technology to allow the students to remain engaged in class even when they have completed the daily work. They will be engaging in conducting their own research, posting on new classroom technology (Wakelet) and then summarizing their thoughts via a blog post on weebly.com

Phase 2: Planning for Integration

I will know that my students have learned by reviewing their blog posts throughout the semester and from our informal conversations in class through the use of the student-centered discussion prompts. It will be integrated into our class setting by allowing for students to use class time to work on the year long project.

Phase 3: Post-Instruction Analysis and Revisions

Since this is my first time using this new technology integrated plan I will be revising throughout the school year. Self reflection, and asking my peers at school for advice on how to best improve this plan. One of the greatest strengths of an educator is to be able to collaborate with our peers and lean on them for feedback and then make necessary changes.
