Abstract

The purpose of this poster is to establish the conditions needed for food safety and security during and post the COVID-19 pandemic in the era of Industry 5.0., conducted through a joint collaboration between IIT Delhi and Neoma Business School, France.

Introduction

Dividing Industry 5.0 enablers broadly into blockchain-based, COVID-19 policy-oriented and I5.0-based technological reforms, which one of these or a combination of these would be the most necessary among the three to achieve complete food safety and security during and post the COVID-19 era?

Materials and Methods

  • Created a questionnaire on 43 items derived from 9 variables of:
    • COVID-19 policy-related reforms
    • I5.0 based technological reforms
    • Blockchain-integration based reforms.
  • Collected data from 290 respondents through snowball sampling.
  • Target population: Purchase managers of food brands.
  • Conducted fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) on data.

Conclusions

Conditions to primarily focus for establishing food safety & security during and post COVID-19 in I5.0 era:

1. Traceability: Blockchain-induced traceability between stakeholders which brings in transparency in transactions.

2. Compliance: The manufacturer being able to keep real-time track of their supplier(s), whether they are adhering to the compliance norms set by the food safety and security regulatory agencies

3. Supply chain digitalization: Integration of IoT and cutting down human intervention in the supply chain processes as much as possible for the validity and integrity of the data stored in the blockchain

4. Cargo integrity & security: Ensures every detail and information of the supply chain operations during the manufacturing process is returned and stored in a blockchain, run by the manufacturer

5. Health & hygiene of workers: How much the manufacturer believes that the overall health and well being of the workers are important for their contribution in plants

6. Demand side shocks: The ability of the supplier to support the manufacturer during abnormal surges of demand from consumers

7. Supply side shocks: The ability of the supplier to support the manufacturer when the supplier’s supplier fails to deliver their services

Industrial Significance

Policymakers and manufacturers can readily focus on the necessary conditions, instead of spending capital on implementing all Industry 5.0 enabling technologies and COVID-19 policies
