Midway ISD Brand Value

Our brand is where our story takes shape.

Brand is more than just a logo. It’s an idea or perception that lives in the hearts and minds of people. A brand is the Reputation, Quality, Personality, Experience, Message, and Unique attributes of an organization.

It’s the intersection of what we say about ourselves, how we act, what people think of us, and why we’re different from other school districts. It’s authentic.

By having a strong, unified brand we shape our audience perception and cultivate a personal connection through the stories we tell.

We are Midway.

MIDWAY ‘M’ WORDMARK

The Primary System

Midway ISD has three main marks approved for common use by the district, schools, staff, community and vendors. (District permission required.) The intention of these marks is to be the most commonly used to represent the activities and endeavors of Midway ISD as a whole.

The primary system outlines branding mark usage, specific brand colors and brand typography usage that must be followed to represent the Midway ISD brand correctly.

As much as possible, the Midway ISD advises the use of full-color logos. Where instances arise that production limits color usage, alternate options are outlined in this guide. Many times this will require district supervision and written approval.

Employee Communications

Official communications materials for district employees give credibility to messages. Consistent use district-wide can tighten security due to branding recognition. Remembering that recipients are usually adults, professional designs emphasize that education is a professional field. Cute graphics that appeal to children are not necessary for these pieces.

Web-based Communications

  • External sites are not approved for any official MISD department or organization.
  • Google sites or Microsoft Sharepoint are approved platforms to maintain information resource hubs provided by a department, campus, or organization, but not as any official MISD department or organization presence. Employees must use their MISD account to set up and maintain the site, plus Helpdesk@midwayisd.org and Communications@midwayisd.org must be given editing/account recovery access.
  • Separate organizations like booster clubs and PTAs are exempt from these restrictions, although it is not recommended to maintain external sites due to the inherent impression of representing MISD and lack of content oversight. To facilitate safer communications, Booster Clubs and PTAs are allowed to utilize ParentSquare to maintain resources, rosters, and send information.
  • All sites (and social media accounts) are expected to maintain ADA compliance according to the latest WCAG standards. Information must be maintained to be:
    • Current and accurate
    • Proper grammar and spelling
    • Compliant with FERPA permissions for publishing student photos, identification, student performance and publications
    • Copyright compliant
    • Adherent to MISD branding

Sponsorship & Advertising Guidelines

brand identity

36 of 38

Sponsorship Guidelines

Objective: To provide consistent guidelines for sponsorship recognition that acknowledge the generosity of sponsors appropriately while protecting district interests and maintaining district brand and marketing guidelines.

Sponsorships play a vital role in providing quality programs for students above and beyond tax-funding. Sponsorship packages are constructed carefully; packages often include corporate sponsorship opportunities, which should not be confused with placed advertising. Sponsorship guidelines are in place in order to keep focus on the main purpose of any given district or campus program or event, to maintain equitable opportunity for community partnerships, and to distinguish between sponsorships and placed advertising. Thus, sponsorships do not include authority for art direction.

  • Agreements are not made for sponsorship recognition that obligate future members and officers of the supporting organization.
  • The size and type of recognition will be appropriate for the gift provided.
  • The district reserves the right to decline sponsorship and/or logos from any corporation not deemed appropriate.
  • The Midway brand and logo is more prominently displayed than the corporate logos or signage.
  • District logos will be appropriately displayed and branding guidelines are followed. Logo copy and design layout will be submitted to the Public Information Officer for approval prior to placement.
  • Cash (payment) for the capital items purchased for school use will be given directly to the school as designated funds so that items may be directly purchased by the district. By giving funds to the district, the organization is released from liability for the product. The items become the property of the district.
  • The costs of sponsorship recognition should be built into the price of the item to be purchased through sponsorships. Sponsor shall provide appropriate art work and design at their own cost. Sponsor will be responsible for any logo changes requested during the term, including labor costs associated with change.

Sponsorship Guidelines for Webpages

Objective: To utilize a district resource to acknowledge the generosity of sponsors and/ or donors. It should be clear that MISD is thanking donors, not selling ads or promoting/ endorsing companies as a referral.

  • The page needs to have verbiage saying something such as, “The Spring Valley PTA would like to thank the following sponsors…” or “Thank you to these sponsors…”
  • The logos cannot include links to outside websites (no referrals)
  • Logos need to be minimal, preferably sized to fit within a 200x200 pixel spot
  • No logos on campus or district homepages
  • Logos only; No ads
  • Space for a logo cannot be sold (no ads). It can be an amenity within a sponsorship package though.
  • No inappropriate logos/companies for kids. This means that any local favorite “bar and grill” will have to provide a version of their logo without the word “bar” in it.
  • All content must be ADA-compliant.

Any MISD program wishing to sell ads for online placement will need to pursue an approval process through the Development Department or Communications Department.

Sponsorship Recognition Guidelines On MISD Property

Advertising is available on a contract basis with the Athletics Department for athletics facilities, website, and scoreboards.

Midway ISD’s permit for the campus digital signage is for school business only; no advertising. To keep within City of Waco regulations of no advertising:

  • Company/organization names may be included only if the company name is a part of the title of the event or award (e.g. H-E-B Excellence in Education Award), or as the event location. If event/award has a custom logo for that purpose, use on the sign is acceptable.
  • Nonprofit beneficiaries may be listed in text. (e.g. Baseball game benefits McLane’s Children’s Hospital)
  • In order to respect donors, companies may be thanked on the sign according to standards set by the MISD Development Department.
  • Digital sign placement can only be purchased for athletics facilities, not campus signs.

Digital Signage

Official Midway organizations may provide yard signs or banners to be placed in a designated area at any Midway campus for a maximum of two weeks. Principals will designate the area for yard signs to be placed on their campus. Yard signs may be removed at the principal’s discretion for any reason at any time.

All yard signs and banners must be:

  • Midway-centric; Fundraisers involving businesses must indicate that it is in fact a Midway fundraiser. In other words, a restaurant fundraiser night for a Midway organization needs to include the Midway group name and/or “Midway Eats.”

  • Midway-branded; Any publications produced by Midway organizations must abide by Midway branding guidelines. In other words, you don’t have to include a logo, but if

you do, it must be the correct one.
