Mission: We advocate for sustainable and continuous improvement in PK-16 mathematics and science education in Ohio.

Vision: Every Ohio graduate will be sufficiently competent in mathematics and science to make critically analyzed, thoughtful, and informed decisions; be a responsible, contributing citizen, and have a productive and satisfying career in a changing, global economy.

Activities: OMSC will help to accomplish the vision by:

Fostering information sharing and facilitating communication among all mathematics and science education stakeholders
Facilitating the definition of a continuous improvement plan for K-16 mathematics and science education and disseminating the plan
Supporting necessary changes in the K-12 curricula and supporting instructional materials
Supporting necessary changes in the manner in which student performance is assessed such that Ohio's citizens will know where its students, schools, and districts are relative to others in Ohio, the nation, and the world
Supporting legislative actions necessary to finance and accomplish the above.

Dave Clark

Through his experiences as a teacher and college instructor, Dave has honed his expertise in project-based learning design and integration, instructional technology, social-studies content-area coaching, makerspace development and classroom management.

A nationally-recognized ISTE Certified Educator and Trainer, Dave helped to develop a blended model for ISTE certification training using the Brightspace LMS. He was instrumental in creating and leading Butler County’s Virtual Learning Collaborative for remote learning.

Dave has extensive experience with professional development and has presented on a variety of topics at local, state and national conferences including the National HSTW Conference, OETC, OU Playful Learning, SPARCC, ITIP Ohio Google Summit, OBTA, OESCA and the UC/NKU STEM Conference.

Prior to arriving at Butler County ESC in 2014, Dave was a middle school social studies teacher for 17 years and led the design and implementation of a number of innovative programs such as the Phoenix Academy Alternative School, a PBL-based elective humanities course, and a geography and current events elective.

Proposed OMSC Statement:

The Ohio Mathematics and Science Coalition (OMSC), an advocacy group dedicated to the sustainable and continuous improvement of mathematics and science education in Ohio, champions nationally supported data-based research to assess and strengthen education in prekindergarten through Grade 16. The OMSC recognizes the importance of the work of the U.S. Department of Education, including the Federal Student Aid (FSA), the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), the Office for Civil Rights (OCR), and the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS). The OMSC advocates for national support to help create fair, informed, and effective learning environments for all students.

To help all students succeed in today’s global economy, the OMSC advocates for continued federal funding for education, data acquisition, and research, including testing, analyzing the results, and sharing the information. National assessment and research make it possible to compare the effectiveness of U.S. education internally and with that of other countries as well as give states and local communities helpful information to create stronger, more effective educational programs that meet their students’ needs. The OMSC believes that research-based programs supported by reliable data are key to improving schools and preparing students for the future.
