Setting Up Your Account

1. Look for the invitation to join Mystery Science in your email.

• Click the button to join your school’s membership.
• Complete the form and click “next.”

Getting Started

1. Login to your Mystery Science account

​

• Scroll down and look for your grade level’s units on the left side OR search for a topic at the top.

​

• Select a unit ~ Each unit is designed to stand alone, so you can teach the units in ANY order.

Getting Started

• Select a lesson ~ The Mysteries within a unit build upon each other, so they are intended to be taught in order. Later in the units, Mysteries will often reference things discussed in earlier Mysteries.

​

• Once you’ve selected a lesson, you can get the list of supplies and start the Mystery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do students have their own accounts for Mystery Science?

Mystery Science is used by a teacher with a whole class. Students do not have individual logins, but if you’d like to give students access to the student version of a specific Mystery. In the student version, students can watch the videos but cannot browse through the website.

To share the student version:

​

1. Click the chain link icon at the top �right corner of a Mystery title slide�
2. Use the link provided to give your �students access to the student �version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the lessons aligned to the state standards or the Next Generation Science standards?

Yes. Mystery science is aligned to the performance expectations, DCIs, practices and cross-cutting concepts of the NGSS.

​

How long is each lesson?

The core of each lesson (or “Mystery”) is an activity plus a short series of videos and discussions (called “explorations”). The activity & exploration combined are designed to take about 45-60 minutes of class time, but can easily be divided across multiple periods if needed.

Are materials available in Spanish?

Yes. We have Spanish translations of student worksheets. Open a handout link and click “Spanish” to view the translation. Spanish videos are not yet available.

Is there a complete list of all the

supplies needed for the year?

To view a list of supplies, consult the

“Activity Prep” tab for a list of supplies

for each unit.

You can access assessments for each

unit by clicking the “Assessment” tab.

Can I modify the handouts &

assessments?

Yes! Open a handout or assessment

and click “edit”. You can copy the file to your

Google Drive or download it as a Word doc.
