Grading Guidance for Instructors

1

Not Meeting District and State Standards

Student explanation does not accurately identify whether the car is using either a renewable or nonrenewable resource; or mentions that cars run off gas; or it mentions it is a renewable resource because it is an electric car.

2

Working Towards District and State Standards

Student explanation includes how the car could use a renewable or nonrenewable resource to recharge, but does not recognize that it could use either. Just because it is electric car does not mean it is a “green” car.

3

Met District and State Standards

Student explanation includes that whether the car uses renewable or nonrenewable energy depends where it is being charged from. If the battery is recharged using solar power, hydropower or wind power, it is using renewable energy. If the battery is charged using fossil fuels it is using nonrenewable energy.
