Purpose

The Northwestern Medical Orchestra (NMO) serves to enrich the Northwestern medical community by engaging members and audiences in live music experience. NMO is a unique environment where medical students, alumni, faculty, and staff convene weekly to play together in a joint creative effort. Through open rehearsals at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, orchestral concerts at multiple venues, and a variety of intimate chamber music settings, NMO is committed to sharing musical performances, including their therapeutic benefits, with patients and their loved ones, community residents, and all members of the Northwestern medical community.

Auditions

  • There are none!
    • No unnecessary stress
    • Any music lover who can attend rehearsals and concerts is welcome
      • Caveat that equipment and instrumentation limitations (particularly in piano and percussion) may limit membership in special cases.
      • Preference may be given to last season’s members and players with greater rehearsal availability.
  • Seating will be determined by a self-assessment of musical experience and playing ability in the new member form
    • We will try to pair less experienced players with more experienced players
