Hunter syndrome | 5 | | This affects the red blood cells causing anaemia, which can lead to overwhelming fatigue, shortness of breath and palpitations. |
Haemophilia | 6 | | This is a metabolic disorder that does not show signs of symptoms until the child is between two and four years old. These can include abnormal bone growth, a large head and protruding tongue and slower development of speech and walking. |
Thalassemia | 7 | | This causes mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. Patients may have recurrent chest infections and find it difficult to gain weight and grow. |
Sickle cell anaemia | 8 | | This condition stops part of the brain from working. It starts when a patient is between 30 and 50 years old and is usually fatal after a period of about twenty years. |
