The Star wars universe consists of a 9 movie saga named “The Skywalker saga” and also features two addition films called Solo and Rouge One which expands on the established characters in previous films and also introduces new storylines and also expands on the universe.

Before Star Wars was purchased by Disney, Lucasfilm produced 2 animated shows in which both presented the events of the clone wars and both have very different styles respectively. The 2003 clone wars was created by the creator of Samuri jack and is very action oriented however the 2008 clone wars show was more plot heavy and featured CGI animation instead of hand drawn. Because of the 2 conflicting plots, the 2003 show is not considered “Cannon”. The 2008 show began with a feature legnth film released in cinemas and had “6” seasons before being cancelled. Also other animated shows were made earlier which introduced fan favourite Boba Fett

After the Disney purchase they clones wars (2008) was cancelled leaving no animated star wars show on air so to replace this was Star wars rebels which aired on Disney XD in 2014. this show was well received however not as well as the clone wars. Resistance came out in 2018 and this was largely ignored by the fans at large. In 2020 season 7 of the clone wars was released and brought a final end to the show which fans quickly loved and the show itself went on to inspire many elements from the live action shows such the Mandalorian.

Disney Also released multiple live action TV shows which expands the star wars universe using new and old characters which have all quickly became beloved and extremely popular among the mainstream audience (mainly the Mandalorian)

The MCU is a series of interconnecting films that share the same universe and overarching plot. It was created in 2008 when Iron man was first released and teased the expansion of the film universe when the character Nick Furry showed up In a post credit scene, which then a few months later the character of Tony Stark (iron man) showed up in the hulk film. A sequel to iron man was made along side a captain America film and a Thor film which not only featured characters the titular characters but also side characters which would eventually build the universe. After these couple of films the phases was rounded out by the avengers film which showcased all the heroes from their individual films come together and fight a huge threat. After this huge successes, many more films were made which introduced many new characters while still developing old ones and furthering the plot. All of this cultivated in avengers endgame but eventually the hype for the Mcu died down and is currently at a low point for the franchise. While having many noticeable flaws across all of its films, the MCU is largely positively received.

In 2015 Netflix released a TV show which was based off the mildly popular daredevil which became a smash hit on Netflix and they company managed the produce 2 more seasons, 4 more solo hero shows and a team up show titled the defenders. Daredevil was the show many people favoured compared to others and it was what many people considered the best of any marvel adaptation.

Pre MCU many company's had film rights to marvel characters and they produced many films and some were bigger hits than others.

DC films haven’t had as good of a start as marvel films as when they started they’re connected universe came out to lots of negatives reviews with fans and general audiences not enjoying the direction and tone of the films. After 2017, Dc started experimenting with their films and brought in many unique visions and creatives to make their films and while there was a incline in quality the connected part of the films weren't as solid. As of now James Gunn is now in complete creative control and is now resting the universe and staring fresh.

Warner Brothers have had a large success when making dc comics films that aren't in a connected universe. Films such as The Dark Knight, the Batman, The Joker and V for Vendetta all received critical success and are highlighted as some of the best superhero movies of all time. Films such as the original superman (1978) pioneered the superhero genre and was a film defining a generation. DC are also critically acclaimed in animation in both film and TV.

DC TV had lots of success as the CW produced an interconnected TV universe which revolutionised the superhero TV genre just like their competitors did with the movie universe. Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Constantine, Batwoman, Legends of tomorrow and Black Lightning are all apart of the universe and when the multiverse was introduced many other DC shows/films were shown as a cameo.
