Bellwork

  1. You are helping a student in an Algebra class solve the following equation 4(x+3)-2=6. Do not only solve problem, but pretend like you are explaining the problem and how to get from one step to the next.

  • Based off of your explanation, which pattern of thinking best matches your explanation
  • Visual- Your explanation includes lots of arrows that shows the logical flow from one step to the next
  • Analytical- Your explanation resembles a bulleted list that shows side by side the steps and a reason from how you get from one step to the next
  • Verbal- Your explanation resembles a paragraph.

The Project: Choices!

  • Poster
  • Pamphlet
  • PPT Presentation
  • YouTube Video (Note: If you choose this, you’ll want to write a script for your video and organize a powerpoint today in class. I recommend ZOOM record feature for videos over ScreenCastOMatic)

A Note About Stage 2:

This is designed to get you up the level of rigor in your proof journey.

I recommend:

Option 1: If you are really struggling with the basic flowchart proof

Option 2: If you are ok with basic flowchart proofs but find harder flowchart proofs more difficult.

Option 3: If you are able to get around 75 percent of the reasons correct in a reasons only

Honors Options: If you are in Honors or are in Standard and would like a challenge.

Work Time

  • You are to be working on your project in your seat!
  • I will circulate around and check in about your ideas and what you want to work on. I can give you tips
  • Focus first on finding the information and making sure you are following the rubric. Then you can worry about making it pretty (don’t do it the other way around)
  • Remember, this is for a mastery grade. Not doing this will hurt your grade more than missing IPs.
