Start Time

  • The day starts at 8:40 and ends at 3:40.
  • We start right at 8:40.
  • No dismissals after 3:00.

Attendance

  • Really important to maintain excellent attendance
  • Much of what we do can’t be sent home- discussions, games, group work, partner work
  • Makeup work is given when student returns. Has number of days out to get makeup work in- up to 5 days.
  • Student’s responsibility to get makeup work in. It will show as missing or a zero in Powerschool until it is turned in, so it is important to check Powerschool on a weekly basis. If your child is missing an assignment, please encourage him or her to take responsibility for it.

Discipline

  • Excellent conduct is expected. Behavior should be conducive to a learning environment and respectful at all times.
  • Consequences are verbal warnings, notes home, and walking at recess.
  • Parent conference will be requested if student has trouble controlling undesirable behaviors.

Math Homework

  • Generally, Weekly Reviews are assigned on Monday and due at the end of the week.
  • We use the completed Weekly Reviews in class on Fridays, so it’s important that students are prepared with their work.
  • Online skills are assigned on Monday and due the following Monday.
  • Math homework is very routine.

PowerSchool

  • Please check weekly.
  • We update as frequently as we can.
  • Gives you an idea of how your student is doing.
  • Shows missing assignments. Very important to check if student has been absent or tardy.

Classwork/Homework

  • Any missed assignment will result in a study hall during recess.
  • Please do not bring forgotten work or materials to the classroom. Parents drop off materials in office.
  • Classwork and reminders will be written in the Agenda Mate. It is the children’s responsibility to be clear on assignments and remember to bring home what they need. Parents should check agendas.
  • Homework will be written by students in their agenda mates. Students should contact friends when they forget to write down assignments or need clarification.

Parent Involvement

  • We need your support by helping your child develop good study habits at home and do his/her best on all assignments
  • Holding your child accountable for writing down clear assignments, having all work packed, and being ready for the day.
  • May mean helping out with celebrations and activities in the classroom
  • Please let students clean out their folders.

Reading and Language Arts

  • Each month a new genre will be assigned for at home reading. Students will read books in the assigned genre for the entire month.
  • Students will complete assignments on the books read at home.

  • IXLs are assigned on Monday & due the following Monday. Nearly all work is completed in class. (90% or higher)

Teacher Communication

  • We primarily use email and the agenda mate, please limit evening and weekend emails. Emails that are sent at night will be answered the following day.
  • Students should call friends when they need clarification on a homework assignment

  • Please save home phone calls for emergencies only

  • Conferences can be scheduled throughout the year, not only during conference weeks. We will schedule a conference with you if we have a concern, and you should do the same.

Snack & Water

Refillable water bottles are easiest. Bring to school full & can be filled during the day.

Snack - we have last lunch, so a morning snack will be needed. Please send easy to open snacks, please nothing with juice that could spill. No candy.

Odds and Ends

  • Birthday treats can be brought in to share at lunchtime. (Check for allergies.)
  • Please do not allow children to bring in toys or items to show without prearrangement.
  • Check periodically with your child to see if supplies need to be replenished. Expo markers always seem to go first.
  • Change in way home must be noted in School Dismissal Manager or contact the front office.
  • Requests for make-up work should be made by 11:30. Please do not request make up work in advance. Work will be available in the lobby after school.

Dismissal Procedures

  • Car riders – be sure to enter the line southbound on James Blvd, follow the line, & remember NO cell phone usage during carline.
  • Walkers – must exit the out the front of the building.
  • Change in the way home:
    • Bus note – must be written and include who they are going with, the address where they are going, the bus number, & your cell number. ALSO, make changes in the School Dismissal app.
    • car/walk - all changes must be made in the app.
