The plastic pollution in the river

  • Around 10% of the particles found in the Danube River were attributed to industrial activities (production processes, conversion and transport.)
  • 90% of the plastic particles in the Danube are emitted by
  • littering
  • fragmentation and transport by wind
  • run-off from roads
  • parking spaces and residential areas
  • inappropriate use of products
  • use of cosmetics
  • construction activities

The Danube Delta

  • The Danube Delta is the second largest river delta in Europe, after the Volga Delta, and is the best preserved on the continent.

The Danube Delta

Its life and fauna are amazing: grazed mosaic forest landscapes, the beautiful woodlands of Letea and Caraorman.

  • Here you can find the largest number of fish species anywhere in Europe.

It has potential for wetland restoration and rewilding (the former polders and lakes)

The plastic pollution in the Delta

Down to the Danube and its surroundings, water flows or lakes of any kind accumulate huge quantities of plastic.

It leads to decreased aquatic biodiversity and a drastic drop in the quality of water we use.

Measures

The 'Clean Waters' project

  • Aims at historical pollution
  • collects plastic in waterways
  • Takes measures to prevent and combat more coming in
  • To reduce the debit of about 4 tons of garbage a day, more and more action is needed.
  • 'The Future Doesn't Sound Good' is the motto of the 'Clean Waters’. it is a program dedicated to reducing plastic waste in the Danube.

  • Numerous campaigns have appeared over time in which young people have tried to attract both the local community and tourists to be able to make a change.

  • The good part is that we can make things right. we can make it considerably visible.
