GOAL 3: Civil Registration and Census

Choice A:

“FS: Argentina Civil Registration”

- Summarize Historical Background and Coverage and Compliance for overview information.

- In the Information Recorded section, briefly review each bold heading (Birth Records, etc.) for the information that can be found in each type of civil registration record.

“FS: Argentina Census”

- Briefly review the Online Resources.

- In Understanding … review the bullet points for descriptions of the 1869 and 1895 censuses. Also mention that the 1914 census is available only at the National Archives.

- In Searching Census Records review the bullet points for tips on searching in census record collections.

- Scroll down to Argentina Census Records … and show a bit of the table. Mention that it has references to microfilm and archive resources.

Practice Exercises

- Open the main link for the Civil Registration Record Practice #1 and read the problem statement. Mention that learners can click the Hints link if necessary but should not click the Answers link. Tell the learners they have (x) minutes to find the answers. Then read the answers at the end of the time.

- Do the same for the other two Practice Exercises.

GOAL 4: Emigration and Immigration

Choice A:

“FS: Argentina Emigration & Immigration”

- Briefly review the Online Records section. There are many links, so you can select a few to point out.

- In National Archives scroll down to the “Request certified copies …” link. Explain the link, and then summarize the two paragraphs that follow it.

- Scroll down to French Argentinians and review a few of the bullet points for a background on immigration from France to Argentina.

- Scroll down to German Argentinians and review a few of the bullet points for a background on immigration from Germany to Argentina.

- Scroll down to Irish Argentinians and review a few of the bullet points for a background on immigration from Ireland to Argentina.

- Scroll down to Italian Argentinians and review a few of the bullet points for a background on immigration from France to Argentina.

- Scroll down to Spanish Argentinians and review a few of the bullet points for a background on immigration from France to Argentina.

Mention the other bold headings - Argentinians in Brazil, etc. - as resources for tracing ancestors who left Argentina.

“FS: Finding Town of Origin”

- Summarize the Finding Town of Origin section to emphasize what’s required before examining Argentinian sources.

- In Important Tips review the questions in the bullet points.

- In Documents in the Home review the list for items to look for before researching.

- In Emigration Questions … mention the importance of doing interviews and recommend the question list for later study.

- In Make Sure You Found … summarize the first sentence in each bullet point, as a guide for doing effective searches of emigration records.

CEMLA Online Database

- Click the link and scroll down to Immigrant Arrival.

- For Apellido (Last Name) type Gallardo, and for Nombre (First Name) type Juan; than click Buscar (Search).

- Scroll to the right in the results table to show all the information headings.

- Explain that you can also show more results per screen or filter results.

Passenger Records - Entrada …

- Click the Database link to show the search screen.

- Click the Characters link to show selected biographies for immigrants.

GOAL 5: Church Records

Choice A:

“FS: Argentina Church Records”

- In Online Resources … mention that most of the links here are also available as QUIKLinks later in Goal 5.

- In Information Recorded … review the types of information that can be found in records for baptisms, marriages, and burials.

Choice B:

“FS: Argentina Cemeteries”

- In Cemetery Records summarize the information up to and including the bold sentence, to describe the kinds of information found in cemetery records.

Record Search Practice

- Open the main link and read the problem statement. Mention that learners can click the Hints link if necessary but should not click the Answers link. Tell the learners they have (x) minutes to find the answers. Then read the answers at the end of the time.

GOAL 6: Maps and Gazetteers

Choice A:

“FamilySearch Places”

- On the site, click the first link on the left side.

- On the right side of the screen, mention the map and the information panels that can be opened.

- Click the main link on the left side to show an alphabetical list of locations in the country.

- Open one of the list items to see it in the map. Note that items with a right arrow will expand to additional items when clicked.

Choice B:

“Old Maps Online”

- On the site, click Explore. Then scroll through the maps on the right and select a few to view.
