A time and place where students bring a point of confusion from a content class and receive support from their classmates to work the problem, ask questions, and find solutions.

AVID students are supplied with a YHS Agenda and are required to keep a detailed Daily Agenda for all classes:

Course of Study: A-G Requirements

AVID students are expected to take courses to fulfill A-G requirements (which also fulfills YHS graduation requirements).��

Grades of C or better required in ALL classes!

Honors and AP classes are recommended

Students will complete biweekly grade checks and create SMART Goals if they have a D or F in any class.

Each senior will receive a AVID Stole to wear at graduation
One student per grade level is recognized as an AVID Model Student
Students who have a 3.5 GPA and A-G compliant are also recognized

Frequently asked Q & A

1. What if you only want to do AVID in grade 9?

That is fine - we encourage students stay in the program throughout high school but it is not “required”. However being in AVID guarantees them a spot for the next year if there is limited seats.

2. Can I be in AVID and another program (academy, YHS sports, choir, band, etc.)?

Yes - but it might require summer school or 0 period depending on the other program elective requirements. Your YHS counselor will help you navigate your schedule.

3. Does AVID help with college applications and financial aid?
Yes, during your senior year, you will apply for both and get one-on-one help from the AVID teacher.
