Factors to Consider When Choosing Classes

Graduation Requirements�

  • 4 years of English (12 credits)
  • 4 years of Social Studies (12 credits)
  • 3 years of Math (9 credits)
  • 3 years of Science (9 credits)
  • 1 trimester course in the Arts (1 credit)
  • 7 credits of PE/Health/Safety Ed
    • ESS I, ESS II, Safety Ed, Wellness & 3 PE classes (total of 7)

Note: the 2 Health requirements for graduation are fulfilled with ESS I, ESS II & Wellness

Total of 66 credits (minimum to graduate)

Grade 12 Requirements-must register for 15-21 credits

English

  • REQUIRED: Choose 3 English electives

OR Intro to College Fiction/Composition College in the Schools (all year, 3 trimesters)

OR AP Literature (all year, 3 trimesters)

Social Studies

  • Required: Economics (1 trimester) and 2 social studies electives

or AP Economics (all year, 3 credits)

Math-not required but recommended

  • Typically Pre-Calculus, Honors Pre-Calculus, AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC or AP Stats

Science-not required but recommended

  • Physics, Honors Physics, AP Physics or Physical Science

  • Require a minimum of a high school diploma for admission

  • Encourage students to take four years of Math and/or Science

In addition to RHS graduation requirements:

Most four year colleges require:

  • 1 year of the Arts
  • 2 or more years of a single World Language

Four year colleges prefer:

  • 4 years of Math (U of M requires 4 years)
  • 4 years of Science

Additional Considerations

  • Think about the amount of time you will have for homework, co-curriculars and jobs
  • Talk with teachers about expected workload in classes
  • Know yourself- schedule the most rigorous classes you can successfully manage
  • Staying balanced is important- don’t overload your schedule

Select classes

  • Complete the 12th Grade Registration Worksheet found on the RHS website
  • Use the 12th Grade Electives Worksheet to help with elective choices
  • Remember to register for alternate electives, including PE classes if you signed up for a PE class. These are backups for your trimester electives and/or PE electives.
  • NOTE: You do not need alternates for year long electives like band, dance, choir, world language and career development classes

Campus registration overview

  • Log on to Campus student portal using an internet browser (do not use the Campus app)

  • Click on “Academic Plan” and then click “next” (skip all other drop downs)

  • Use the “Search the Course Catalog” box at the very top of the Academic Plan page and add courses in each curricular area by typing either the course number or course name

  • Register for alternate electives and alternate PE courses at the bottom of your Academic Plan for your specific grade level. Remember these are your elective backups. You do not need to add alternates for year-long classes (like band, dance, choir, world language, career development)

  • Make sure your Registration Worksheet matches your Campus online registration

Note: We will not be collecting the Registration Worksheet

  • Be sure to click “save” when you are finished. Once you click “save” there will be a pop up window-ignore this and click “ok”. Edit course choices through the end of the registration window.

  • This will provide students instructions about how to check their registration for any errors and to confirm their final registration
