Creation and Maintenance of your Science Notebook

Creation and Maintenance of your Science Notebook

Materials Needed:

  • 3-ring binder
  • 4-5 Dividers (ask your teacher)
  • Marker to label dividers
  • Several sheets of notebook paper (1 per divider)
  • Creation and Maintenance of your Science Notebook handout
  • Pen to make Table of Contents for each divider

Directions:

  1. This binder will hold ONLY your science materials.
  2. Label the dividers as shown on the Creation and Maintenance handout.
  3. Place the dividers in the binder rings.
  4. Place a sheet of paper behind each divider.
  5. On the first paper, write Table of Contents – Class Notes at the top.
  6. As you accumulate papers, you will file each one behind the appropriate divider AT THE BACK of the section, and record the date, title of the document, and page number on the Table of Contents for that divider.
  7. Also, write the page number on the document itself.
  8. A good system for numbering pages is to consider each item a page, no matter how many pages it actually has, and number accordingly.
  9. Use the divider name in the page number, eg. a paper filed in the Class Notes section would have the number CN-1
