I am From
By Ms. Schwartz
I am from non-traditional birthday cake,
and from boxed mac and cheese every Thursday and crispy French toast on snowdays.
I am from sledding down the Library’s hill until we were
and an always clean swimming pool in the backyard.

I am from retro cartoons with my Dad on lazy weekends,
and trips to Red Lobster and Borders for good grades with Mom.
I am from car trips to Grandma’s and Aunt Elaine's many weekends,
and where we’d roller skate for birthday parties and fundraisers.

I am from the peace of church five minutes from the house I grew up in,
and reading Fear Street books by night light on school nights, risking being tired the next day.
I am from teacher emails about reading too much in
and hiding my art journal under my bed.

I am from the little gray shed my Dad built for me, falling off the roof in the process,
and ballet and gymnastics until middle school - I figured out I wasn’t athletic.
I am from my own cordless phone in my attic room,
And losing friends as we grew up,
