M-CRPS Design Specification Format

The proposed format for the M-CRPS design specification is a spreadsheet, this is due to the number of parameters we need to specify from the base specification and because by having this format an automated test environment (ATE) can quickly test and check against the specified values, making it very convenient. A complimentary PDF file is also embedded inside the spreadsheet.

This specification uses 80 PLUS Titanium Efficiency which is the highest category for internal redundant

power supplies with a peak efficiency of 96% at 50% loading condition. The form factor helps with the

reuse of this power supply on different systems.

  • Impact

The M-CRPS as part of the DC-MHS project addresses the standardization of the server internal redundant

power supply specification using the Legacy CRPS as a starting point and creating an evolution with new

features that will be useful for all the customers, this way the power supply vendors can focus on designing

and develop products based on a standardized specification leveraging the same form factors and

Firmware base codes for new products and applying different specifications depending on the end market

e.g. Enterprise, Telecom, Cloud, etc.

    • Multiple power supplies can be connected in parallel to satisfy the system’s need.
    • The different form factors can be use in the same system bay (with proper fillers in the case of the 60mm in width)
    • Higher output power rating can be achieved in the same form factor every generation.

The specification is open for third parties to implement new power supply models although the

workstream provides design specifications as reference for the industry to provide multiple sources for

the products, these design specifications are created with feedback from the different workstream members and from the power supply vendors in the industry, we assess, comment, feedback or

recommendation to have a specification that any company can use in their end products.
