  • Detail use of AT in Goals, if applicable
  • List under Supplementary Aids/Assistive Technologies on the Environment/Service Page in the IEP (form I)
  • List any training supports needed under Supports for school personnel on the Environment/Service page in the IEP (form I)

In the PLAAFP….

…..during reading. Jose is able to read textbooks more accurately when using a highlighted page tracker. He is able to complete a 100 word reading passage in 52 seconds with a page tracker. Without a page tracker, Jose reads 37 words in a minute, as he loses his place while reading, and rereads or skips lines.

In a goal…..

Given division problems with a 2 digit divisor and using graph paper, Ja’von will solve 5 problems with 90% accuracy as measured by formative assessments weekly and reported quarterly.

Baseline: 10% (without lined paper)

On the Service Page….

On the Environment and Service Page (Form I) in the IEP, add all AT that student is using, the setting in which it is being used, and who is providing the service or tool.

If there is a tool/device/service that requires training for paraprofessionals or other support personnel, determine the frequency of this training and arrange with team how this will be provided.

Accommodations…

List the changes to the:

  • Setting - lighting, sound, separate space
  • Timing - additional time, more breaks
  • Formatting - same content, alternate display
  • Scheduling - different time of day or week
  • Presentation - visual, auditory, kinesthetic

These are NOT the same as Assistive Technologies.

Review

  • Assistive Technology is any tool or service that increases, improves or maintains functional capabilities
  • Describe HOW AT is used in the PLAAFP
  • Add AT tools/services in goals, where appropriate
  • List AT under supplementary aids/services on form I
  • Include any training needed to support tool, if needed
  • CONSIDER for all students. If they are breathing, they probably can use AT!
