Welcome to our Global Holidays, Observances, and Celebrations Calendar. This resource highlights hundreds of holidays, observances, and celebrations globally, with information about each one.
More importantly, this calendar is paired with a full suite of tools to help us all learn, together.
Our calendar helps organizations recognize and navigate cultural moments with meaning. Whether supporting team members, or engaging your customers and clients, it provides key dates, context, and insights—free for all to use.
It is a labour of love, and a constant #WorkInProgress, reflecting the evolving nature of cultures, languages, norms, and so much more. Be sure to share feedback on write-ups, additional dates, and suggestions for improvement to learning@feminuity.org, and we’ll be sure to make updates each week.
Also, we know there’s a lot in here, and we want to be clear that no workplace can ever (or should ever) recognize all of these dates, focus on what’s right for your team and organization. Check out Prioritizing What Matters: A Guide to Key Dates to help.

Keeping Inclusion on the Calendar

While leading their doctoral research, Dr. Sarah Saska and Dr. Andrea Rowe uncovered significant gaps, biases, and blind spots in emerging innovations, leading to products and services that failed diverse global needs and, at times, even caused harm. They recognized these challenges weren’t just in the innovations but in the workplaces and cultures that created them. To design more inclusive products and services, organizations needed to collaborate across cultures, innovate with agility, and integrate equity into their approach. Determined to close this gap, they turned research into action and founded Feminuity.
Since 2015, we’ve partnered with over 200 organizations across 20 countries.
We enable organizations to solve their most pressing challenges through an equity-driven approach to innovation.

Our team just released a 10-Year Report packed with what we’ve learned, unlearned, and the trends reshaping equity in 2025 and beyond.
Please note that the date of some special days may change each year. We've noted this for you with either a 🔁 symbol to indicate a date that is the same every year or a ⭐️ symbol to indicate that the date changes.
If you’re wondering why some dates may change annually, a solar calendar determines some holidays, and others a lunar calendar.
A solar calendar is a calendar where the dates are based on the position of the earth and its proximity to the sun. The Gregorian calendar is an example of a solar calendar.
Lunar calendar months correspond to cycles of Moon phases. The months of the Gregorian calendar do not conform to the cycles of the Moon phase.

New Year's Day (Gregorian & Julian calendar) 🔁
New Year's Day is observed on January 1, the first day of the year in the modern Gregorian calendar as well as the Julian calendar. While most solar calendars (like the Gregorian and Julian) begin the year regularly at or near the northern winter solstice, the start of the new year in cultures that observe a lunisolar or lunar calendar (such as the Chinese New Year and the Islamic New Year) happen at less fixed points relative to the solar year.

World Introvert Day 🔁
World Introvert Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to better understand and appreciate introverts - an often misunderstood group. Interestingly, the first World Introvert Day was held in 2011 after psychologist and author Felicitas Heyne published “Here's why we need a World Introvert Day.” Indeed, more than half of the population prefers introversion. Despite introvert abundance, many cultures (such as those in the United States) emphasize the strengths and behaviours associated with extraversion.

National Ribbon Skirt Day 🔁
National Ribbon Skirt Day, first celebrated in 2023, is a day in Canada celebrating the ribbon skirt traditionally worn by Indigenous women.
The day was inspired by the experience of Isabella Kulak, an Indigenous girl in Saskatchewan who was shamed for wearing a ribbon skirt to a "formal dress day" at her elementary school. Prompted by Kulak's experience, Manitoba Senator Mary Jane McCallum put forward a bill in Parliament to recognize National Ribbon Skirt Day.

Lohri is a popular winter festival celebrated primarily in the Indian Subcontinent. It marks the end of winter and the beginning of the harvest season. A significant part of the festival is a giant bonfire. People will gather with friends and family to sing around the fire and throw popcorn, puffed rice, and sesame seed into the fire as offerings to the gods. The fire is believed to carry the people’s prayers to the sun god to bring about a prosperous harvest season.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day 🔁
International Holocaust Remembrance Day is an international memorial day that commemorates the victims of the Holocaust, and the genocide of European Jews by Nazi Germany between 1941 and 1945. January 27 was chosen by the United Nations General Assembly because it was on January 27, 1945, that the prisoners of Auschwitz-Birkenau were liberated. It is essential to reflect on this most egregious expression of antisemitism during this day and remember that this hate has not disappeared. One of the most pervasive and harmful myths fueling antisemitism is holocaust denialism. Memorials and events during this day are often met with protests, some of which are violent. Moreover, different forms of Neo-Nazism are on the rise in North America.

During February, after February, and year-round, we can leverage our voices and influence to upend anti-Black racism and the multitude of ways it remains entrenched around the globe and in our workplaces.

World Hijab Day 🔁
World Hijab Day recognizes the millions of Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab and live a life of modesty. The brainchild of this movement is a New York resident, Nazma Khan, who came up with the idea as a means to support religious tolerance and understanding by inviting women (non-Hijabi Muslims/non-Muslims) to experience the hijab for one day. By opening up new pathways to understanding, Nazma hopes to counteract some of the controversies surrounding why Muslim women choose to wear the hijab. It is essential that all workplaces allow team members to wear hijabs.

Imbolc ⭐️
Imbolc is an ancient festival with roots in pre-Christian Celtic traditions, particularly among Gaelic cultures. Celebrated by many modern pagans, including Wiccans and Druids, it marks the midpoint between winter and spring, honouring renewal, hope, and the first signs of returning light. Associated with the goddess Brigid, Imbolc is a time for purification, creativity, and setting intentions for growth. Traditions include lighting candles, cleansing rituals, poetry, and welcoming the earliest stirrings of spring, reflecting a deep connection to nature’s cycles and the promise of new beginnings.

World Cancer Day 🔁
World Cancer Day is an international day that aims to raise cancer awareness and encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. It is important to acknowledge how cancer affects many people disproportionately. Access to lifesaving care and medication is not always equitable. Certain communities are more exposed to carcinogens that increase cancer risk. Not all forms of cancer have been researched thoroughly or have effective treatments yet. Cancer awareness goes beyond simply acknowledging that it exists, but how it affects people depending on their intersecting identities of privilege and oppression.

Lantern Festival ⭐️
The Lantern Festival, also called Shangyuan Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunisolar Chinese calendar. Usually falling in February or early March on the Gregorian calendar, it marks the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations. At night the streets are decorated with colourful lanterns, often with riddles. People eat sweet rice balls called tangyuan and even set off fireworks. Lailat al-Bara'ah is an Islamic observance translating to the "Night of Emancipation" or "Night of Forgiveness." It is believed to be a night when Allah grants mercy, forgives sins, and determines the destinies of individuals for the coming year. It is an opportunity for Muslims to seek forgiveness, pray for guidance, and prepare for the holy month of Ramadan, which follows soon after. Muslims do voluntary night prayers and recite the Quran. Special supplications are made for forgiveness and blessings and many people give to charity. In regions like South Asia, the night is often marked with community gatherings, special meals, and lighting decorations. Here are some practical ways to offer support to colleagues:

International Day of Women and Girls in Science 🔁
International Day of Women and Girls in Science reminds us that women and girls play a critical role in science and technology, and we should strengthen their participation. Diversity in these fields brings fresh perspectives, talent, and creativity. It is important to acknowledge the intersectional ways in which women and girls are denied access to scientific spaces, and even when they may get through the door, how they are not always included. On this day, we should ask ourselves, which women and girls are being left out of this conversation? Check out the Reboot Representation Project, which aims to address the gap of Black, Latina, and Indigenous women in the tech sector.

Presidents' Day (U.S.) ⭐️
Presidents' Day, which is officially Washington's Birthday, is a holiday in the United States celebrated on the third Monday of February to honour all persons who served in the office of president of the United States. However, it is important to acknowledge the complex and often violent legacies behind many presidents. Many of their actions continue to perpetuate oppression to this day. Consider using this day off to learn about their legacies from the perspective of people experiencing marginalization in the United States. Think intentionally about your organization’s approach to supporting the civic engagement of your team members - especially those that might find it more challenging to carve out time for voting, whose company roles are strictly in-person, or who live further away from voting centers. Implement organization policies and practices that give the necessary flexibility, Paid-Time Off (PTO), and supports such as transportation subsidies so all team members can vote and participate civically.

Mardi Gras ⭐️
Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, refers to events of the Carnival celebration, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany (Three Kings Day) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday,” reflecting the last night’s practice of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual Lenten sacrifices and fasting of the Lenten season. New Orleans is known for having some of the most extravagant celebrations of this holiday. Although many enjoy this New Orlean tradition, it cannot be divorced from the staggering wealth inequality, underfunded infrastructure, and environmental degradation that dominate this city. Anyone hoping to attend these celebrations should take the time to understand the complex history and current context of this diverse city.

Losar (Tibetan New Year) ⭐️
Losar, or Tibetan New Year, is a festival in Tibetan Buddhism celebrated on varying dates based on local tradition, often lasting up to two weeks. The first day is for family, and the second and third days are for visiting friends and exchanging gifts. The theme is purification, with rituals like cleaning homes, wearing new clothes, and driving away evil spirits. Foods include pastries and soups. Losar is also a reminder of Tibetan oppression under the Chinese government, with children taken from their families, stripped of their culture, and unable to celebrate. Recognize that the New Year varies across cultures and traditions, not just January 1st.

Lunar New Year ⭐️
Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, marks the start of the new year on the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar. It celebrates myths and customs, traditionally honouring deities and ancestors. In China, regional customs vary, but a key tradition is the reunion dinner on New Year's Eve. Families clean their homes to sweep away bad luck and decorate with red paper-cuts and couplets symbolizing good fortune, wealth, and longevity. Other customs include lighting firecrackers and giving money in red envelopes. Lunar New Year is celebrated in many countries, including South Korea, Vietnam, and Malaysia, and is a time for reunion and hope. Remember, New Year celebrations vary across cultures, not just on January 1st.

Anti-Bullying Day (Canada) ⭐️
On Anti-Bullying Day, people wear a pink shirt to symbolize their collective stance against bullying. It originated in Canada but is now celebrated on various dates worldwide. Groups experiencing marginalization, such as the LGBTQIA2+ community, report significantly higher rates of bullying in the workplace, so this could be the time further to educate your team on different identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences and remind them of your anti-harassment policies. Practice allyship if you witness bullying by reporting it through the proper channels and challenging it in real-time.

Purim ⭐️
Purim is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the saving of the Jewish people in the 5th century BCE from Haman, royal vizier to King Ahasuerus of Persia. Haman believed that the Jewish people were too rebellious and should thus be slaughtered. The story was recounted in the Book of Esther, a Jewish queen who heard of the impending violence, altered the King of Haman’s plan, and the King had him hanged. During this holiday, Jews attend synagogue, read the Book of Esther, enjoy Purim theatrical plays, donate to charity, and give gifts to friends and family. A popular food during this holiday is three-cornered pastries called hamantaschen.

Ramadan ⭐️
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.
Muslims go to work and school and take care of their usual activities during Ramadan. However, some also read the entire Quran, say special prayers, and attend mosques more frequently during this time. All Muslims who have reached puberty and are in good health are required to fast.
The spiritual rewards (thawab) of fasting are believed to be multiplied during Ramadan. Accordingly, Muslims refrain not only from food and drink, but also tobacco products, sexual relations, and sinful behaviour. During Ramadan, almost 2 billion Muslims across our planet will fast between sunrise and sunset.
Lastly, it’s important to note that the holy month of Ramadan has no fixed dates as it’s tied to the movements of the Moon. Technically it’s all about the first sighting of the Crescent Moon over Mecca in Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Muhammad.

Rama Navami is a Hindu spring festival celebrating the birthday of Shree Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu. In the Vaishnavite tradition, Rama holds great significance. Hinduism is a diverse spiritual tradition, dominant in India, Nepal, and Mauritius. Some Hindus fast on specific days, limiting food and drink for spiritual reasons. Teams should be mindful of fasting schedules, especially on Holy Days, and adjust meeting times to support fasting team members. Wherever possible, try to refer to Indigenous peoples in the plural to emphasize this diversity and by their specific tribe or nation. Check out What It's Like To Be Left-Handed In A Right-Handed World for numerous examples of how products and environments are not designed with left-handers in mind, such as scissors, guitars, can-openers, zipper closures, classroom desks, sports equipment like baseball mitts, tape measures, and more! Bi Visibility Day 🔁
Bi Visibility Day celebrates the bisexual community and its history. Bisexuality doesn’t mean attraction to all genders in the same way, or at the same time, and someone’s bisexuality isn’t defined by their romantic or sexual experiences. It may also include attraction beyond the gender binary. Bisexual individuals are often less open about their sexuality at work or with family, so it's important for workplaces to include bisexual+ experiences in LGBTQIA2+ initiatives. Studies suggest bisexuality is more common than exclusive gay or lesbian attraction, and around half of Generation Z doesn’t identify as exclusively heterosexual. As an ally, challenge harmful stereotypes and encourage learning about bisexuality through resources like the Bisexual Resource Center.

Yule 🔁
Yule is an ancient winter festival rooted in pre-Christian pagan traditions, particularly among Germanic and Norse cultures. Celebrated by many modern pagans, including Wiccans and Heathens, it marks the winter solstice—the longest night of the year—and the return of the sun. As a fire festival, Yule symbolizes renewal, patience, and hope, reminding us that light will grow even in the darkest season. Traditions include lighting candles or fires, feasting, decorating with evergreens, and acts of generosity, reflecting a shared reverence for nature’s cycles and seasonal change.

Winter Solstice 🔁
The winter solstice, also called the hibernal solstice, occurs when either of Earth's poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. It is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky. The opposite event is the summer solstice. Since prehistory, the winter solstice has been a significant time of year in many cultures, and has been marked by festivals and rituals. It marked the symbolic death and rebirth of the Sun; the gradual waning of daylight hours is reversed and begins to grow again. Some ancient monuments such as Newgrange and Stonehenge are aligned with the sunrise or sunset on the winter solstice. Keep in mind, this day can be difficult for people with seasonal depression.

Boxing Day 🔁
Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated the day after Christmas Day, occurring on the second day of Christmastide. Though it originated as a holiday to give gifts to the poor, today Boxing Day is primarily known as a shopping holiday. The emphasis on shopping and consumerism can exclude people who are not financially stable and do not have the disposable income for such spending. Boxing Day, however, can also be a time for sales, when people who are not financially stable can afford things they otherwise can't. This day has also become quite difficult, even harmful and violent for retail workers, who bear the brunt of chaotic and excessive days. What this means is that this day is complicated and tied to consumerism and capitalism in some unfortunate and unpredictable ways.
