Dear West School Families,
May was the beginning of beautiful weather. Grade levels were busy with publishing parties, state exams, and butterfly release events. We celebrated staff and teacher appreciation week and had a blast at our Fun Fitness Field Event. We are looking forward to our West Fun in the Sun week, our concerts, and our Moving Up ceremony.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation
We held an amazing Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week in May. A special thank you to our PTA for providing so many special treats for our teachers. They provided raffles, lunch, donuts, pretzels, and lotto tickets which brought smiles to our staff each day. In addition, we want to thank our families for the letters, flowers, and school supplies provided to our teachers each day. We cannot say enough about the joy and happiness all of this brought to our staff. We greatly appreciate our West School Family. West is BEST!

Meet Ms. Donato
Hi! I’m Ms. Donato! I am the new fifth grade teacher at West Elementary. I am beyond excited to join the West School family and be a part of this wonderful Long Beach community! Teaching has always been my dream job and I look forward to coming to work each day! Some of my favorite things to teach are writing and math. I love teaching multiple methods of solving a math problem and looking at things in multiple ways! I also love teaching writing. It is so much fun to see how our ideas grow into stories! This year has been a wonderful learning experience about how to incorporate new technology into the classroom. Some ways we used technology was using Flipgrid, Blooket and web quests!�Check out my twitter @MsDonato5

Fun Fitness Field Day
On Thursday, May 27, 2021 our school held our Fun Fitness Field Day. Students participated in relay races, Zumba, mindfulness, and yoga. In addition, we had presentations on water safety from our Long Beach lifeguards and bike safety with AAA. A special thank you to our PTA who provided students with an amazing Dance zoom which both students and teachers enjoyed. H.E.A.R.T. Huddles
Our H.E.A.R.T. Huddles this month focused on the idea that “When we choose love we choose to be trustworthy.” Buddies watched the short, “Pip” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07d2dXHYb94 and discussed how important it is to be trustworthy. This tied into our Pet Food Drive because our furry friends trust us to take care of them.
