This is a very popular story between a monkey and a crocodile. The story teaches us that we should use our presence of mind during difficult times.

Once upon a time, there was a monkey who lived in a tree on the bank of a river.

​

The monkey was very lonely. He ate a lot of fruits and was very happy.

Happy Monkey but lonely…..

Crocodile-the new friend

One day, a crocodile appeared on the riverside.

​

The monkey was happy to see someone there on the bank.

​

He offered some fruits to the new friend.

Both became close friends

The crocodile found the fruits very tasty.

He carried some fruits for his wife also.

They talked and talked and were never tired of talking.

They became good friends.

​

One day, the monkey reached home very late.� He spent a long time with the monkey.� The crocodile’s wife was very furious.� The Crocodile’s wife demanded the monkey’s heart as his food

next day.�

Crocodile gets confused !!!

The crocodile loved his friend very much.

​

He loved his wife also.

​

His wife dived into the river and left the young ones with the father.

At last, the Crocodile surrendered !!

• At last, the crocodile decided to be on the side of his wife.

​

• He decided to invite the monkey home next day.

​

• He was tensed thinking about his young ones.

​

Crocodile invites the monkey home

• The crocodile tells

the monkey that

his wife wants him

for a meal in her house.

​

• The monkey says that

he cannot swim but can

ride on the crocodile’s back.

​

• The monkey accepts the invitation and sets out at the crocodile’s back.

Crocodile reveals the secret

• In the middle of the river, the current was strongest.

​

• The crocodile could no longer hide

his intention.

​

• He said hesitatingly to the monkey that he has brought him to kill him.

​

• His wife wanted to eat his heart.

The monkey used his brain !!!!

• The monkey was scared and distressed.

• He was clever like other monkeys.

​

​

​

• He told that he was ready to offer his

heart to his friend’s wife.

​

• After all, he was his only friend.

Did not carry the heart all the time

• The monkey said that his friend crocodile was a foolish one.
• He should have told him before about his heart.
• In that case, he would have brought the heart along.
• He has left it on the tree.

Return journey

• The monkey therefore proposed the crocodile to swim back at once to the tree and get the heart.

• The crocodile said that it was a great mistake and took a full turn to reach the tree.

Give fruits to your wife not my heart………

• On the river bank, the monkey jumped onto the tree and took a deep sigh of relief.

• He plucked some fruits from the nearest tree and threw them for the crocodile.

​

• He said to the crocodile that he should give

some fruits to his wife instead of the

monkey’s heart.

Good Bye! Forever, dear crocodile !!!!!!

• The monkey bade farewell to the crocodile and said that they would not meet again.

• The Crocodile understood how the monkey tricked him to save his own life.

Crocodile tears !!!

• The crocodile became very sad and understood what happened.
• As usual, he shed some crocodile tears.

• He rushed home to tell his wife about the incident.

• Thus, we come to know that-

• We must not be greedy in our life.

• We must use our presence of mind during difficult situations.
