Musical Bugs

(This game can be played alone, but is more fun with two or more players!)

Supplies Needed:

  • Musical Dice - (patterns included)
  • Scissors for cutting out musical dice
  • Tape for assembling musical dice
  • Pencil and paper
  • Bug “guide” directions

Object of the Game:

Single player: To complete your bug by rolling the musical dice. Two or more players: To be the first player to complete your bug by rolling the musical dice.

How to Play Make a Bug - Musical-Style:

If you roll a ...

Do this:

Whole note

Draw a body - must have this before legs or tail

Ta-ah / Half note

Draw a head - must have this before eyes or antennae

Ta / Quarter note

Draw eyes - (needs 2)

Ti - Ti / Eighth note

Draw antennae - (needs 2)

Half rest

Draw tail - (only needs 1)

Rest / Quarter rest

Draw legs - (needs 6)

Draw your bug however you want it to look, but make sure that it has all of its parts so that it is complete!

Print out this slide and cut around all of the design, or (if you don’t have a printer available) make a square pattern and trace around it 6 times in this shape. Then draw some tabs around the ends as shown. You can write in the notes as I have done, and then you are ready to continue!

When you have cut around your paper, gently fold all of the thick black lines to make the sides of the dice, and then fold in the small tabs and tape them closed.

You should now have musical dice to use for the game!
