First

Earn 21 credits in required and elective courses and take 6 end of course exams.

Second

Demonstrate Competency in the area of Algebra I and ELA II. (Earn at least a 684 on the End of Course exams.)

Third

Demonstrate College/Career Readiness (Earn two diploma seals.)

In order to earn a diploma from the state of Ohio, students must complete three steps.

Each year, the AHS administration, teachers and counselors work to develop a program of studies. This document details important graduation requirements, new courses, awards and honors and most importantly a description of courses that will be offered for the next school year. Students (and parents!) please make sure to start your scheduling process by reading the program of studies!

Required & Elective Course Guide

  • The Required & Elective Course Guide is a great tool for starting the scheduling process.
  • Page 1 details the required classes students will need to take each year.
  • Electives are listed on page 2, the grade levels listed to the left of the course name are the grade levels the course is open to.

4 Year Planning Chart

The 4 Year Planning Chart is another great tool to use for scheduling. You can use this document to track your high school credits earned, ensure that the requirements in each subject area are being met and see the additional requirements for an Academic Honors Diploma.

Physical Education Credit

  • If you have not earned your PE credit by taking a full year of PE in middle school you must sign up for PE in high school or complete 2 seasons of sports.
  • The State of Ohio requires students to earn either a .5 credit of PE or two PE waivers. They cannot be combined.

College Credit Plus - CCP

If you are considering taking CCP courses, all new CCP students must:

  • Go to a CCP Meeting- AHS meeting is February 14, 6:00pm in the PAC
  • Turn in your Intent to Participate Form to student services or email it to grudzienk@avoneagles.org
  • Fill out an LCCC Application and turn it into student services or email it to grudzienk@avoneagles.org

AP Courses

Advanced Placement (AP) is a program created by the College Board, which offers college-level curricula and examinations to high school students. American colleges and universities often grant placement and course credit to students who obtain necessary scores on the examination, typically a score of 3, 4, or 5 will be credited. These courses are weighted on the high school transcript.

Things to remember:

  • You must schedule a minimum of 6 classes for freshman year.

  • Athletic Eligibility- YOU NEED TO PASS 5 CLASSES EACH QUARTER!

  • 21 credits for graduation - check to ensure you’ve met requirements for each subject area.

  • Freshman year focuses on meeting course requirements for graduation.

  • Make sure to read PREREQUISITES in the Program of Studies, you will be taken out of courses if you do not meet the prerequisites.

  • Study Hall is recommended for students with a C average or lower.
