Remember his teaching;
remember his preaching;
Good News for the outcast
and hope for the poor;
But strong was his message
to rulers he was reaching,
His ministry so forceful,
they could not ignore.
His teaching was diff’rent;
some called him irreverent;
He nurtured a goodness
not based on the law;
And so he caused trouble;
his passion was commitment
To bringing in God’s kingdom
with love at its core.
Remember his teaching;
remember his preaching;
He clashed with the wealthy;
and we can recall
the strength of his message
was found in his beseeching
For freedom from oppression
and justice for all.
He showed a defiance
conceived in non-violence;
He showed us his way
for the whole human race;
He still calls disciples
to follow with obedience;
Resemble his compassion,
his mercy and grace.
Remember his teaching;
remember his preaching;
He said he’d be here
to the end of the age;
May we be a blessing
to people we are reaching
With wisdom from this teacher,
our great Jewish sage.
