BMUN Delegates: partner with your BMUN partner

Other Delegates: choose a partner (or partner chosen for you)

Each team will generate ideas for 2 minutes on a given prompt and then pick a representative to give a :30 speech. For the next prompt, the other partner will speak.

Rules:

  • Start speech with: “Honorable chair and fellow delegates.”
  • End speech with: “Thank you, and I yield my time to the chair.”
  • Use a hook, propose the problem, and declare a valid solution.

  • You can write speaker’s notes during the 2 minutes!
  • Be creative!

Prompt 1: Should school start and end later? If so, when?

Prompt 2: Should countries be forced to follow MUN policies? If so, how?

February Topic Speeches Introduction

  • BMUN Delegates will write a position paper
  • All delegates will present a speech to present research on a chosen current event
  • 5 minutes long
  • End of February
  • Research time given in every meeting from now on

  • Focus on research for the time being. Sign-ups for February speeches will be released next meeting.

What is a position paper?

  • Define your nation-state’s perspective
  • This is a general guide. Check your committee page for more specific assignments.
  • 3 pages per topic (although examples show otherwise)
  • Exhibits:
    • Comprehensive understanding
    • Organized and argumentative structure
    • Original thinking
    • Seriousness

  • Past and Current International Action (20%) - ⅔ page
  • Country’s Position (20%) - ⅔ page
  • Proposed Solutions (40%) - 1 ¼ page
  • Questions to Consider (from Topic Synopsis) (15%) - ½ page

Timeline and Awards

January 27th: Position papers due

January 13th - January 20th (until next conference): Research, research, research! Draft the first 2 sections of the position paper and send to pacific.collegiate.mun@gmail.com.

January 20th - January 27th: Draft the last 2 sections of the position paper and peer-review.

REMEMBER: 3 pages MAXIMUM per topic (very short - your research is much longer)
