THIS IS A JOB

  • Right up there below school/education
  • Consider what it takes to put on a game
    • 24-30 players/families/coaches
    • Planning, field scheduling, leaving work early
  • You are leader of an event. Not show/late affect’s others
    • Think of it, what if a bus driver, teacher, store worker, pilot just did not show up or did a bad job?
      • Consider this for late cancelations
    • Everyone has had that “no umpire” or “late umpire” feeling
  • You reflect the EPBA: As in any other job, take pride in your work and the organization
    • The EPBA loves to hear “umps at your tourney’s were great” or “that ump was great”

ARBITER SCHEDULING SOFTWARE

  • Arbiter is the administrative scheduling tool which schedules and aligns staff (umpires) with games for
  • All umpires and games will be loaded onto arbiter
  • Initial tasks
    1. Every umpire needs their own account with unique email
      1. For siblings in program, they all need unique email
    2. You will provide email in process to be described later
    3. Arbiter will send you an email asking to create an account
    4. Make sure you fill out Address, cellphone info, etc..
    5. Do NOT enter your social security number (more on this later)
  • Cory/I will communicate with you via both Arbiter AND email distribution lists
  • Arbiter will send umpires reminders 1 or 2 days before the game
  • Once Arbiter Account is established, every umpire should download Arbiter App from the App store

MORE ARBITER TO/DO AND SCHEDULING

  1. Non compliance with Arbiter procedures is the #1 source of aggravation for Cory and I
  2. To comply, all umpires must “block their calendar” in Arbiter and keep it blocked correctly
    • Instructions will be sent on best ways to block your calendars to maximize your games
  3. When the schedule is rolled out for games, tourneys, umpires must immediately accept/decline the games (from inside the Arbiter).
    • Not doing so causes problems and wastes time
  4. In season, Cory will make changes/additions in Arbiter. Umpire must promptly accept/decline the assignment (inside arbiter)

MORE SCHEDULING NOTES

  1. Again, please accept/decline assignments vs App/email
  2. Cory/I will sometimes communicate/offer games via Arbiter
  3. We will also communicate via distribution lists
  4. Sometimes we will communicate via text (not preferred but people don’t respond to emails)
  5. Umpires that get most games assigned are because they have a “Mom” that helps them with scheduling
  6. Many offers are in season cancellations/same day notices. The Mom or dad that jumps on offers get games (kids don’t read emails, don’t respond) during the day

OTHER COMMUNICATIONS

Please be responsive to emails

  1. Example: equipment pickup
  2. Example: Makeup training

QUICKBOOKS

  • Every new ump in the system needs to be registered in QuickBooks to set up pay
  • You will get an email from EPBA treasurer, Emily Serkaian asking for email address associated with the umpire.
  • Emily will QuickBooks to contact umpire with additional information to set up with pay
  • Parents/guardians should help umps with this since they are minors
  • Look for email information on how you will provide your Quickbooks email
