Synopsis

A game designed for 12 years + and best played for family bonding, Trapbyrinth is a board game inspired by the Ant Lion’s sand trap. The sand trap is a cone-shaped burrow built by the Ant Lion as a trick to capture its prey. The moral of this game is to teach players perseverance. A key and unique feature of the board game is its undulating platforms designed to elevate or depress on momentary basis and players are required to climb their way to the topmost segment of the board in order to win the game. The bond takes the shape of a game arena for a more immersive and competitive ambience. While providing sufficient housing for operational electrical and mechanical components.

Movement

  • Antlion makes a funnel to trap its prey
  • The game revolves around the random movement of the tiles.
  • Random moving of tiles is inspired by the Antlion’s sand throwing action.
  • Incorporated Labyrinth concept into the Antlion’s action to create our toy movement.

Ideation - the behaviour of the antlion.

Idea that fulfil - forming of the cone-shaped burrow by the antlion in order to capture its prey .

How to fulfil - One of our game rules is for the players to climb up from the bottom tile to the top tile and this is fulfilling the movement of the antlion’s prey which tries to escape from the sand trap.

Process :

  1. Separate the parts into design, mechanical and electrical.
  2. Making the outer shape of the prototype.
  3. Build the mechanical components in the inner part of prototype.
  4. Simultaneously, build the arduino of the circuit (electrical components).
  5. Combine together to become a prototype.

Problems faced:

  1. The shaking of the metal rod when it is moving up and down.
  2. The friction between the metal rod and the holes of the platform.

Solutions:

  1. Put another rod that is perpendicular to the metal rod to prevent it from bending.
  2. Put some lubricant to the holes of the platform.

Team Reflection

Time management and teamwork is very important in this module. Our team was too relaxed as we thought we could finish the project in time. We needed to brainstorm to build a toy according to our creativity, innovative and knowledge. We hope that we can improve our teamwork and be more cooperative when we’re doing our project. Throughout this project, we also learned many skills and knowledge based on electronic, mechanical and design parts. Last but not least, we appreciate each other efforts that has been put into this project.
