Let’s review the GPA Summary…..

There are four different GPA’s on the transcript and each one has its significance:

Cum. Weighted: All 4 years; AP and college courses grant one extra grade “bump” for grades A, B, and C - Reported to Private colleges

Cal Grant GPA: Used to determine financial aid award

Weighted 10-12: UC and CSU A-G GPA calculation determines eligibility

Cum. Unweighted: All 4 years of high school without grade “bump”

Transcript Review - Is my student on track to graduate?

• All juniors should have the following # of credits:
• Approx. 160-175 credits
• 7 classes per year = 75 credits per year
• If a student transferred from a different high school, the range should be between 150-160 credits

Credits - Créditos

If you have less than 150 credits:

• Must meet with School Counselor to discuss your student’s credits and progress towards graduation.
• Make a plan for how to catch up on credits (summer school, spring course registration, etc.)

Students should:

• Attend class every day
• Talk to teachers & Advisor for support
• Attend tutoring on campus or at BGCP
• Use Varsity Tutors online tutoring for help at home

Si tienes menos de 150 créditos:

• Debes reunirte con tu consejero escolar para planificar tu progreso para la graduación.
• Tener un plan para volver a tomar los cursos reprobados (escuela de verano, matriculación de cursos durante la primavera, etc.)

1. If behind on credits your student will be recommended to attend Summer School and based on availability by end of May you will receive an email confirmation that your student is enrolled in summer school

Financial Aid for College - Ayuda financiera para la universidad

• Financial aid is money from the government
• Before the government will give you money, they expect you to pay taxes
• This means:
• Parents must file 2025 taxes
• Student should be claimed as dependent on parents’ taxes unless there are extenuating circumstances
• Start saving $700 for the deposit for next year (explaining that schools need it before grants are even released).

Students can also earn their hours through:

• YCS club on campus (Wed & Fri)
• Sports events
• Helping with set up/clean up on campus events
• Participating in campus events when we have guest table and there is a passport to fill out
• Participating in organizations outside of campus
• Participating in person or zoom informational conferences to expand their post secondary options (ex: Young STEAMers Career)
• Community events

• Students can fail a course if they have too many cuts on their attendance record.
