The Problem:

“EVIDENCE”

POLICY

PRACTICE

Focus is usually here.

Missing from the “evidence” = missing from the policy;

How can we incorporate more community voices here?

Let’s build TRUST by bringing together scholar-activists and community organizers.

The Solution:

Incorporating Community Feedback:

Held 3 Listening Sessions with Community-Based Organizations:

  1. Based in the Central Valley Region of CA
  2. Focused on Advancing Equity (Health, Educational, Environmental) Through Civic Engagement
  3. AAPI and BIPOC Youth Centered

Incorporating Community Feedback:

  • Asian American Liberation Network (AALN)
  • Empowering Marginalized Asian Communities (EMAC)
  • Little Manila Rising (LMR)

Key Ideas from the Community:

They want to be more connected with institutions of higher education throughout the region.

They want to know what data is already out there/already being collected and the ability to access/inform it.

There are many ways scholar-activists could be integrated into organizational initiatives.

It can be empowering just knowing there are value-aligned people to partner with out there, and the summit would be a great start to creating that network long-term.
