Professional Attire

  1. Female: dress/skirt, slacks, blazer, shoes dressy
  2. Male: dress shirt with collar, tie, sport coat, shoes shined
  3. Hair: clean, neat, (do not constantly touch)
  4. Jewelry: minimum (Wear your officer medallion, Regional and Gold Key pins.)

Voice Projection

  1. Speak to the back of the room. (You will not have a microphone.)
  2. Speak clearly and do not hurry.
  3. Know how to pronounce all your words.
  4. Know your presentation - face audience and use clicker to avoid looking at the screen.
  5. Vary your voice to avoid monotone delivery.
  6. Be enthusiastic.

PPT Preparation

  1. Create slides pleasing to the eye.
  2. Keep slides to bullet points.
  3. Keep slides simple.
  4. Keep same theme.
  5. Use pictures when appropriate.
  6. End slides with your contact information.

Controlling Distractions

  1. Place phone on mute.
  2. Look at your audience.
  3. Engage the audience.
  4. Talk about the slides.
  5. Avoid excessive hand movements.
  6. Try to avoid “um”, “you know”, “right”, “ok”, “you guys”.

  1. Do an audience analysis.
  2. Think of your listeners.
  3. Be sure to launch.
  4. Use academic language.
