De Sequeira gagal membebaskan tahanan tersebut dan terpaksa berlayar meninggalkan mereka�- Apabila Alfonso D’ Albuquerque, Gabenor dan Ketua Nakhoda Portugis di Timur mendapat berita tentang penangkapan orang-orangnya, dia telah mempersiapkan sebuah angkatan yang mengandungi lapan belas buah kapal dengan 1,400 anggota yang terdiri daripada 800 orang Portugis dan 600 orang India Malabar, lalu menuju ke Melaka.�- Angkatan D’ Albuquerque tiba di pelabuhan Melaka pada 1 Julai 1511 dengan tujuan untuk menaklukinya dan menubuhkan sebuah kerajaan baru�- Akhirnya Melaka ditawan secara rasminya pada 24 Ogos 1511 dan Sultan Mahmud terpaksa melarikan diri ke Kampar dan Mangkat di sana
