Physics Pathfinders Presents:

Floating Ping Pong Ball

2 of 7

Learning Outcomes

  1. Understanding pressure

  • Learning Bernoulli’s Principle

  • Applying knowledge to floating ping pong ball

3 of 7

How is Pressure applied in the experiment?

  • When the hair dryer blows air around the ball it is an area of low pressure
  • The ping pong ball tries to escape the low pressure but the high pressure surrounding it forces it back into the low pressure area

4 of 7

What is Bernoulli’s Principle?

The force of gravity = force of air from hair dryer

This will cause the ping pong ball to ‘float’ in mid air
