Students with Special Needs at LHS

  • 504 Program
    • Student’s counselor is 504 coordinator as well.
    • 504 plans are passed onto new teachers each semester.
  • Special Education
    • Students take a Transitions class where they work on IEP goals.
    • Students can also choose to take a Study Skills course in addition to Transitions.
    • Counselor and case manager will work with student on course requests for next year.

Advanced Opportunities

Advanced Opportunities state program allocates $4,125 for each student grades 7-12th:

    • Dual credit courses (up to $75 per credit)
    • Advanced Placement (AP) exams
    • Overload courses (up to $225) *Anything over your 8 credit load at the HS
    • Workforce Training Courses (up to $500 per course)
    • Professional Certification exams (CNA) (Pharm Tech)

Dual Credit

  • $75/credit when taken at LHS or LCSC. Anything taken at LCSC online/On-campus are responsible for books, lab & course fees.
  • Students with a minimum of 3.0 GPA or College Ready Benchmarks on college admission test have the opportunity to take classes on LCSC campus
  • Student is responsible for anything above $4,125.
  • Risks - Advanced Opp funding frozen, GPA (Math 147), future financial aid in college

Advanced Opp. Participation form is required to be completed prior to participation in the Advanced Opportunities program!

According to a large study on the effects of AP on college success, University of texas research found students who take AP Courses are more likely to graduate from college within four years and have higher grade point averages in college than similar students who did not take AP courses.

Tips for Parents of High School Students

  • Check Powerschool (but not every day)
  • Model a healthy lifestyle
    • Sleep, eating, limit technology, exercise
  • Limit social media and monitor it
    • Encourage student to put their phone up at night
  • Talk about future plans, share your journey
  • Communicate with teacher directly with any concerns about a particular class
  • Help them problem solve but don’t solve their problems for them
  • Ask your student to show you Google Classroom and explain how it works
  • Encourage resilience and working through challenges-Your kids can do hard things!

  • Individual meeting with counselor March 13-21st to finalize requests and discuss recommendations. We also cover graduation requirements at this time.
