Reading
Over the next couple weeks, we will be finishing up our Westward Expansion unit. Students will be creating a final project to show what they've learned about their second Westward Expansion topic. We are excited for students to get creative! In our final reading unit, students will be reading historical fiction books. They will work in book clubs where they will all be reading the same book. This will help with their ability to have deeper conversations about the books they read.
Math
On May 18th, students will take the post-assessment for our current math unit, which is unit 6. Students will show what they have learned about area and perimeter, multiplication and division, as well as fractions. Our next unit is unit 7. This is a shorter unit focused on decimals and multiplication. This unit will review these concepts and build on students' understanding of how to compare, add, and subtract decimals.
Writing
Students have completed their first informational book about Westward Expansion. In a couple weeks we will move into our final writing unit. In this unit, students will be writing historical fiction graphic novels. This will be a fun way to end the year and will allow students to show off their creativity. Students will base their book off of the time period or historical event they are reading about in their book clubs.
SBA - Smarter Balanced Assessment
This week, students completed the ELA smarter balanced assessments and we are so proud of their hard work! Next week, students will take the two math SBA tests on Tuesday and Wednesday. It's important that students are well rested for those tests. We are excited for them to show off what they have learned in math this year!

Lectura
Durante las próximas semanas, terminaremos nuestra unidad sobre la Expansión hacia el Oeste. Los estudiantes crearán un proyecto final para mostrar lo que han aprendido sobre su segundo tema de la Expansión hacia el Oeste. Estamos entusiasmados con la creatividad de los estudiantes. En nuestra última unidad de lectura, los estudiantes leerán libros de ficción histórica. Trabajarán en clubes de lectura donde todos leerán el mismo libro. Esto les ayudará a mantener conversaciones más profundas sobre los libros que lean.
Matemáticas
El 18 de Mayo, los estudiantes tomarán la evaluación posterior para nuestra unidad de matemáticas actual, que es la unidad 6. Los estudiantes mostrarán lo que han aprendido de área y perímetro, multiplicación y división, así como fracciones. Se trata de una unidad más corta enfocada en los decimales y la multiplicación. En esta unidad se repasarán estos conceptos y se reforzará la comprensión de los estudiantes sobre cómo comparar, sumar y restar decimales.
Escritura
Los estudiantes han completado su primer libro informativo sobre la Expansión hacia el Oeste. En un par de semanas pasaremos a nuestra última unidad de escritura. En esta unidad, los estudiantes escribirán novelas gráficas de ficción histórica. Esta será una forma divertida de terminar el año y permitirá a los estudiantes mostrar su creatividad. Los estudiantes basarán su libro en el período de tiempo o evento histórico que están leyendo en sus clubes de lectura.
SBA - Evaluación Smarter Balanced
¡Esta semana, los estudiantes completaron las Evaluación Smarter Balanced SBA y estamos muy orgullosos de su arduo trabajo! La próxima semana, los estudiantes tomarán las dos pruebas de matemáticas SBA el Martes y el Miércoles. Es importante que los estudiantes estén bien descansados para esas pruebas. ¡Estamos muy contentos de que puedan demostrar lo que han aprendido en matemáticas este año!
