This Project Addresses several issues identified in the Point Whitehorn Subwatershed Master Plan (2016)

    • Failed outfall pipe at 7009/7011 Birch Bay Drive (this portion of the project completed in January 2019).
    • Existing storm system along Birch Bay Drive has pipes prone to flooding
    • Severely incised ditch outfall to Beaver Pond

Project Highlights

  • New Pipes sized to accommodate the 100-year design storm event
    • 600 feet of 12” diameter storm pipe
    • 1400 feet of 18” diameter storm pipe
    • 950 feet of 24” diameter storm pipe

  • Reroute flows away from failed outfall pipe along Birch Bay Drive to improved outfall near Pt. Whitehorn Road

  • 100 percent level of design completed
    • Storm pipe alignment replaces existing piped and ditch system along the south side of Birch Bay Drive (flowing northeast).
    • Existing yard drains and connection will be tied into new system.
    • All permit have been obtained.
    • Additional catch basins will capture roadside drainage and provide future tie-in points.
    • Coordinating work with BBWSD to provide water service connections to 8 inch water main on south side of Birch Bay Drive
    • Utility relocation work to occur over this summer - Puget Sound Energy and Cascade Natural Gas relocations.
  • Construction to being early September 2019 after Labor day and last 9 weeks.
