Mark off 120 mm of filament from the Extruder entry

Extrude 100mm of Filament

M83 ; relative mode

G92 E0 ; reset the extruder to zero

G1 E100 F100 ; extrude 100mm at 100 mm per minute

Measure the filament between you mark and the extruder

<20 over extruded, >20 under extruded

Calculating the new Extruder Step Value

Using value from M503 command:

95 * 100 = 9500 steps to extrude 100mm of filament.

Using measured value:

120 - 29 = 9 (asked for 100 extruded 9 less: 91)

91 mm instead of 100. (100 - 9 under)

Let’s calculate the new steps per mm:

NewSteps * 91 = (95 * 100)

NewSteps = 9500 / 91

NewSteps = 104.4

Resetting the Steps per MM

  • Send M503 and double check M92 values
  • Then send an M92 command with the original values for X, Y and Z and the new value for E. In our case:

    M92 X80.00 Y80.00 Z400.00 E104.4
  • Send M500 to save new values in EEPROM
  • Now power cycle the printer and then use an M503 command to verify the new E value is active.
  • Rerun the 120mm test.
