Ancient Rome

Ancient Rome was a powerful and important civilization that ruled Europe for nearly 1000 years. Even though the Romans no longer rule, Rome's culture still has an large impact in the Western world today.

During their time in power the Roman people made many diverse and creative artworks like the ones shown above. They became especially known for their sculptures, paintings and mosaics.

A mosaic is a picture or pattern made by arranging together small colored pieces of hard material, such as stone or tile. The stones are pressed into clay or surrounded by grout.

The Romans used mosaics to decorate their buildings, gardens and public spaces. Many of those mosaics are still around today, even though they were created thousands of years ago!

Today we still used mosaics to decorate public spaces. They are often seen at parks, schools and museums. Have you ever since a mosiac in these places?
