Piaget’s Theory
The first “cognitive” theory, developed by
Jean Piaget beginning about 1920.
Piaget observed and described children at different ages.
• Sensorimotor stage (birth to 2 years)
• Preoperational stage (2 to 7 years)
• Concrete operational stage (7 to 12 years)
• Formal operational stage (12 years and up)
Piaget’s Stages
Sensory motor Stage:
Building knowledge through reflexes (grasping,
Sucking, a rattle and bringing it to the mouth to suck).
(Birth to 2 Years-
of Age)
Language development:
(0-6 months) – cooing , babbling,
(like :– ba-ba-ba-ba , na-na-na-na etc)
(8-18 month)- the child indicate car, ball. It is called holophrase
LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
